i never thought spark was being literal, at that point humans (reclaimers!) are the obvious inheritors of the mantle so they may as well be forerunner

I always thought that line was explained as GS just assuming MC was forerunner because he wore a protective (though inadequate according to GS) “combat skin”.

But then in the next level he does seem to suggest that Master Chief specifically was actually there the last time the ring had to be fired.

Which I always assumed would eventually lead to some future Halo game where MC has to actually somehow time travel and fire the ring in the past. In this hypothetical scenario I imagined a kind of role reversal in the relationship between MC and GS in that this time it would be MC who recognizes GS and GS who is meeting MC for the first time.
But then that never happened so idk.
well the Security Officer/Master Chief are basically the living hand of destiny itself and are likely always present at pivotal moments in history…

Beat the first one. Playing this on Linux is great, except for some reason only the anti-cheat disabled version runs right now, so no achievements :<
It’s all downhill from here.
I kid, of course, but for me whenever I feel like playing a Halo I always return to the first one or the third. Sometimes ODST.

Also, I like Reach. I even like the space stages. But it’s my fourth choice for sure after the other 3.

I finished it last night! What the heck is up with the final room and the unavoidable Juggernaut explosion! After twenty minutes I decided to just flip through the terminal to trigger the level end and just know in my heart that the cyborg who had killed that thing a dozen times would have their body lovingly scraped off the walls by Durandal after losing consciousness from the Juggernaut’s death explosion
You just need to be at max shields + maybe most of another bar and make sure the big floaty thing goes down on the far side of the room so you only get the edge of its death kiss. Then you might be able to tank it. Mostly.

I might have to watch longplays of the Marathon games, i never had the patience to sit down and properly play them
also this is me infodumping about Halo to my gf. maybe i should read the Forerunner Saga / Kilo-5 trilogies?

Do you know if they’ve confirmed cross-play?
I believe MCC is cross-play with PC and MS committed to making all their new stuff cross play as well, so it should be.
MCC isn’t cross-play with PC.
What the? Someone lied to me and made me waste my time installing it even though I never bothered to actually ever play it.
