why can’t they do Halo 3 lighting…
Real time lighting is (in some ways) easier to work with but Bungie’s prebaked lighting is still tops for me
Infinite looks okay. I’ll play it. It being open world won’t be a problem as long as they don’t give you the means to just make a beeline across the level. Classic Halo levels are all corridors and box canyons. Stitch a bunch of those together in one big map and it could be pretty cool.
Watching the gameplay video I could already tell how it would feel to play lol. Seeing the first time the assault rifle shot a grunt and hearing those sounds and seeing those animations I could feel the muffled vibration they’ll surely be using for the controller. Halo just didn’t feel satisfying to shoot any of the guns.
I uninstalled Halo 5 last week since it’d been sitting on my drive for like a year and I hadn’t played it but now I’m reinstalling it because this makes me want to actually run through it at least once before this comes out. Before I’d only started it and then quit after ten minutes. The campaign, I should say. The new multiplayer modes looked fun but I never tried them.
I really had to push myself to get through Halo 4. I was kind of done with Halo by Reach. I’d stopped reading the books and stuff too. So really I’m only it for the gunplay and while 343i mean well the first Halo was lightning in a bottle. Not even Bungie could recapture that magic. Dual-wielding and then equipment pickups were good wrinkles to add to it. Suit powers were the next logical step. But Halo 4 just felt muddled and confused. Trying to reinvent the wheel, I think. Tried adding new stuff but it just ended up being copies of the old stuff because “balance” or whatever. Who cares? “Balance” the multiplayer all you want it’s okay to be creative in the singleplayer. But for some reason everything has to carry over.
perhaps they should stop making these then! god those fucking prometheans or whatever are absolutely intolerably lame, even for halo. I guess like if I was suffering from the delusion that my life was better in 2001 this new game would probably look like a great regressive baby fantasy to indulge in but it’s just utterly depressing to me. we’re on the original halo ring bro!! u can pick up a fusion core and make it go boom lol!! elites!!! just unhook me from the dialysis machine and let me fucking die
I doubt it’s a technical issue. The Covenant art style deliberately called attention to itself, with crazy-bright cubemap reflections and 2 or 3 texture layers underneath. It was bright and flashy and often shone in the opposite direction of the light, giving it an unrealistic but uncanny appearance. New direction is a lot like Marvel movies: not running away from cartoony shapes, but muffling them under more muted colors and materials, and then layering bright ‘magic’ FX on top.
The new Carbine:
Halo 3 Carbine:
How are they back on the original ring? The one that blew up at the end of the first game?
Let’s focus on where they’re making smart decisions: the focus on opportunistic play was real smart and a better direction to expand old-style Halo then layering on more suits and weapons. Adding more unique props and traps that the player can throw and bomb and manipulate, adding enemy interactions with each other (throwing the suicide grunt) and things that make it feel like they’re improvising as much as you, taking advantage of wide spaces by giving the player more interesting movement all sound great. It’s closer to Far Cry, if Far Cry had a better shooting model, or where we took Galak-Z when we wanted to push past a Grunt/Elite/Jackal model.
I noticed they have a health bar again. Was that present in Halo 5?
guy on reddit did some graphics editing to make game look good. looks like reach
also this lil shield burst is nice ngl
No, the only health bar Halos are CE, ODST and Reach. The non-numbered ones I guess is the mnemonic
game nerds’ dearth of artistic influences/ambition & the cultural dominancy of Marvel movies is a continually depressing combination.
Halo 5 just had a regenerating health bar like in 4. No health pips that you recovered with pickups or anything. Though in 5 when you ran out of health you didn’t die immediately but when into a “downed” state with a timer countdown and you died for real if you weren’t revived in time.
Kind of soured me to be honest! I started the game on Legendary and got downed a bunch but kept getting revived over and over and was like okay I guess this is going to be the experience huh.
when did halo get orcs?
this game looks really bad. but I’m not the person to ask, I literally didn’t even know there was a halo 5 until I skimmed this thread. why can’t games just die? like, halo 1 came out 20 years ago, it pretty much did what it wanted to do way back then. by halo 2 there was multiplayer infrastructure that was functional in all the ways that it needed to be. the original developers left. there are obviously no ideas in this game. halo’s popularity has dropped rather severely since it peaked with 3. so why not just…let people make something else? why does every game developer have to be nintendo?
once the army is built,
it needs to find food somewhere
yeah honestly it was the shotgun that made me first think “overpriced niche market SHOT show range toy you go “huh” at a couple times in the middle of youtube videos you never finish because somebody starts yelling about chemtrail freedoms”
who is coming up with all these weird new weapon variants when cortana has earth and 90% of human colonies under her control anyway? is she running SHOT show in 2560?? shouldnt you get rid of guns if you want galactic peace???
I wanna know why Bungie put the Chief in deep freeze and 343 played that card at…what, eight years later? Why couldn’t it be 100 years later? Or 500? Or another dimension? That’s the whole point of a space drifter ending!
the nostalgia cryofreeze is malfunctioning
