Just echoing that your stats are absolutely fine and similar to how Iād be built at this point. You have a bit ātoo muchā str/dex for this early but thatās prolly cause you wanted to hit all the attribute minimums for all the different weapons to try them out which makes perfect sense. Thereās a whole set of weapons that are meant for balanced str/dex, youāll be fine. If you want any advice, Iād put the next few levels into VIT. (The first thing I do in any souls game is get VIT + END to 20 + 20, maybe 25 + 25, except when I find whatever weapon I want to use and put in the bare minimum stats to wield it.)
Can I respectfully ask for a separate thread for all this?
Sure, sorry about that. If a mod wants to cordon this stuff off, feel free.
jokers sweet little trickā¦
i decided iād just put the dark souls posts in here but you have a good few posts about the ace attorney games that could go in their own thread too
Oh dang, thanks! Didnāt mean to make a lot of work for ya.
If you think this is better suited in KoP, I guess you can move it over there. Just wasnāt sure where to post it, haha.
king of posters!! grandpaās gamin thread will never die
also i keep reading this as āgrandpa gapinā threadā??? sorry
you can move it yourself! but as a personal account of vidcon stuff, and one that now has a bunch of posts from other posters intended for a public forum, itās my amateur opinion that it belongs there
no worries about the work, thatās my job!
YouTube compilation of all my pratfalls and other Dark Souls blunders in a series called āGrandpaās Gapers,ā coming soon tā¦Iām being informed thatās not what that word means.
Ah, goes to show Iāve never really posted many threads. That was surprisingly easy! Thanks!
Dark Souls update! I think!
Since I last updated, I have, uh, letās see.
- Pretty sure I mentioned killing some of those black knights. Got a great sword I canāt possibly hope to use just yet. Looks real cool though.
- Found that back path into Valley of Drakes. Took down one baby dragon after considerable effort, rounded a corner and immediately got whipped off the road by another.
- The Hydra! Everyone told me to cheese it by standing near some rocks to the right, but every time I tried that Iād eat a ton of damage from the bite attacks and occasional water volleys. So my solution was to just stand strong right in front of it, andā¦it worked? Water attacks all sailed overhead, most of the bite attacks went overhead or were blocked. Just a lot of running back to frantically chop and then reassume standing ready. Finished it off by shooting its neck stumps with 30 arrows because that last head just didnāt want to land anywhere convenient.
- Havel. Oh Havel I wanted to fight you honorably. But you hit so hard. So I lured you up the stairs so you wouldnāt roll away from my fireballs, side-stepped off the stairs so youād fall, slash ya a couple of times, and repeat. Sorry buddy.
- The Garden Part Deux. Hey did you know the grass guys higher up are way goddamn harder than down below? More photosynthesis? I dunno. But I donāt like them. But I like their human buddies even less! So many Souls right there for the taking, I just gotta get stronger to handle 'em (I was gonna make off with the ones I had and ate a gigantic arrow to the back).
- If you gave me five guesses how a giant cat would clear the distance between it and myself, I would never in my life have guessed how that giant cat did it. Incredibly unpleasant mouth, too.
- Did a graveyard run. Grabbed some stuff, hopefully most of it? Dipped into the Catacombs for maybe two seconds and got right the hell out.
- Senās Fortress. Bane of my existence. Iām doing better with it, though. My best bet at getting good damage on these snake guys is parrying and riposte, but my reads/timing is so damn bad. Determined to figure this out, itād just be a lot easier if I could figure out how to lure out just one snake guy instead of both of them, like I do half the time.
- As for progress there - made it to that stair case where a gigantic steel ball rolls down it periodically. Good guffaw seeing one of those serpent guys get hit by that thing like a truck. I should just journey up that way, but every time I get to this point I decide to get spicy and mess up. Once, I tried to plunge the titanite demon down below and missed. Last night I tried to plunge the serpent guy who is standing real cool against that wall, broke the wall (!!) and got knocked off and died.
I gotta spend like 4 hours in a hospital waiting room today. Maybeā¦maybe I can make some progress there. With headphones. I donāt want to be too annoying.
edit: Forgot that I got the wing tipped spear up to +5 Divine status (I had a lot of green titanite) andā¦itās not doing much against these guys at all! But it does absolutely shred through most every enemy in the old areas Iāve been in, so thatās a plus.
Played some of this at the hospital, which was maybe like the worst/best place to do such a thing. Switch OLED screen gets dark as shit (itās supposed to, but damn), but if my blood pressure got too high, hey, Iām right there.
I tried experimenting with some heavier armor andā¦I donāt like it. I wanna run, I donāt want this stamina-draining trot. I can offset it a little with Havelās ring, but For now Iām unequipping the Rusted Iron Ring when I donāt need it and using the wolf ring to boost my non-existent poise.
Went back to the Asylum and got one of the black knights there. Feels good taking those guys down now, even if Iām just hurling fireballs at them.
Skirted the outskirts of the plateau in the garden and found the shortcut door, plus the super easy place to lure the human NPCs to run off to their death. Some good souls to rack up there. Not so much for leveling for me at this point, but at least I can stock up on goods. The almost transparent thief guy freaks me out every time, though.
Senās Fortressā¦I didnāt let the Mimic get me. The message on the floor helped. Finally made it up top (itās funny in a kinda way how those walkways get narrower and narrower and the blades closer and closer), through the fog door, and got stunlocked by a firebomb and hit by another. RIP.
Absolutely ancient games ITT
Gonna add āball in cupā and ābackgammonā for more authenticity.

I swore āthat wonāt be me,ā but the speed with which I went āthis game sucks, itās bullshit, itās bad, fuck this gameā to āoh, this isnāt that badā once I found the bonfire at Senās Fortress, well!
For all that bravado, the iron golem wasnāt too bad. He got me the first time with a grab, but the second time was pretty easy.
I got to feel the stress all over again with that Mimic, though. Whoever decided those things should have a dang Tatsumaki, yeesh.
But it felt good to take down a bell gargoyle in like a minute down here. Ups and downs, this game.
Every time Sif kills me, I allow myself to backstab one little mushroom boy on the run back.
Itās not right, I know (and they donāt die - they scuttle off!). But it feels like it helps.
Edit: done. Mushroom boys are spared.
wait til you do the demon ruins
Oh no
Left off last night with going back to Anor Londo and crossing that big ass bridge. Sadly, itās been 11 years (???) since this game came out, so there are aspects Iām already too familiar with, cultural osmosis and all. So while Iām fighting these revolting little lightning goblins, I get hit in the back out of nowhere with a big ass arrow, andā¦I know what Iām in for
Iāve overcome great obstacles in my journey so far, how hard can some archers be?
[THIS SPACE RESERVED FOR WHEN I DISCOVER HOW HARD SOME ARCHERS CAN BE]
These archers are kind of a pain in the ass.
I should say - running right at them worked. But I tried to do something stupid with a roll at one of them and got knocked off.
Too tired today to keep at it, but Iām pretty confident I can manage these guys. There have been worse roadblocks than this (unless there are other, worse archers I donāt know about).
That was my last straw so youāre going into unknown territoryā¦for me
But i assume thatās the final boss anyway
Itās really, really funny how these huge knights on these tiny ledges that shoot what may as well be canoes at you from a mile away will also die to a single riposte.
Getting to them, hey, no problem! I got sick of fighting the big knights and awful demon things and just ate some damage running to the first āsafeā zone. Then itās really just a steady trot to the one on the right, hoping to time it so the one on the left doesnāt get an arrow into your back (he did, every time).
Iām still miserable at parrying thrusts, so finally getting a horizontal swing from the guy (with a sliver of my health left) was the gift I needed.
Anyway, Iām in. More fun awaits, Iām sure.
Someone laid down some writing in the corner of the hall that said āwatch out for tough enemy,ā positioned just so that a silver knight would run up behind me and damn near backstab me. Somehow more upsetting than the message at the top of Blighttown that said ātry jumpingā to a ledge that is impossible to get to.
