been way too vocal with the “i’ll play it for a laugh when it’s <£5”, oops

Still literally the worst game I have ever played, only do it with friends and only then if you have a deathwish

Jeeze, it’s been that long. I know the whole bundle concept has been potentially damaging regarding the value of indie games and what.

I do think it’s cool remembering back to the platform’s very beginning about how hard they pushed games with Linux support at a time where SteamOS and whatnot felt unimaginable. I was a couple years from buying my fancy non-hand me down part-based gaming PC so that became a cool outlet to find good new stuff that I could actually run. Fuck tuxracer and all that.

yeah it’s weird that all that work around FNA and monogame and Intel maintaining mesa and wine-staging has resulted in Windows being more dominant than ever largely because Microsoft stopped fucking themselves up but hey, the first-mover advantages don’t go away, they’re just never as interesting

It always hurts to see exposed how little skilled, tenacious idealists matter next to companies with money. Looking back it only happened because they were willing to hedge because Microsoft looked ready to lock down Windows like phone platforms.

and everyone conclusively proved that the Linux port-beggars are only loud because they have the time to hang out on forums

Despite its initial pitch, the bundle concept ended up like all new platforms; a godsend for the small teams when it opened as a meaningful new space, but soon leveraged, sliced, and arbitraged until it falls into the same information trap we’re constantly fighting against. I don’t know if there’s much they could have done, and I’ll always appreciate their efforts to create and maintain media events before Indie Megabooth did it better. Their port teams were really great at the time; even though we have better options now, they helped prove it out and really took a lot of risk on their own shoulders because they were doing so well at the time and wanted to push their ideals.

I recently learned the excellent slang “choosing beggars” and I think it probably fits here. Especially the part where they overwhelm you with bug reports about obscure configurations after you do make the port

GTA V is worth experiencing online imo, mostly to just fuck around and drive a car around with a friend

Epic game store down because everyone trying to get their free GTA copy lol.

Apparently this is also one of the “premium” versions of the game which I think means they start you off in the online with a bit of cash because starting from the very bottom is kind of brutal with the way they’ve evolved the grind in this.

lol if you get this i guess you need to force quit because all the ui elements are hosted on the web i guess
