All versions of DOOM (Doom 1, Doom 2, Doom 3, nu-Doom and expansions) seem to be on sale on every console and Steam with like 70% off right now until the start of March. The new console ports was of the classic game have also been further updated with bug fixes and added Final DOOM.

What I like about Black Desert Online (now called āBlack Desert Remaster - Black Desert Onlineā after itās audio and visual overhaul a couple of years ago) is that it is not an Everquest/Wow-like. It slots much more into a sandbox style experience, where you are free to pursue any of a dizzying number of systems and occupations that have been introduced over the years. There is a lot of interesting stuff in there, even if it now has the long-running MMO problem of there being too much stuff for a beginner to absorb easily without googling what particular icons and mechanics mean. And the combat feels fairly good for an action MMO.
But despite being a paid for product (just one purchase admittedly, no required monthly fee) itās monetized like the worst of those '00s F2P Korean MMOs and itās seeped into every single design decision around progression and game pacing. Thereās a reason the game gives you can option to minimize it to your taskbar so it can run in the background all day.
āFreeā is probably the price it should be up front. I like checking back into it every now and then though just to see whatās changed. If anyone wants to party up and try it I will install it again and you can ask me āhow does fishing workā and I will tell you how I still have not figured it out but it sounds like a lot of work.
I am genuinely curious, but does any other MMO have a in-game searchable encyclopedia of every single NPC in the gameās world?
Scored Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil for less than three bucks. Got a sourceport up and running, and Iām really enjoying playing Doom 3 years later as a horror game in widescreen 4k!

doom 3 has aged pretty well imo
especially w/ nu doom around it remains this weird outlier, more of an actual horror thing

Iāll stand behind it as long as you find a way to eject by 7 hours, after which it will repeat every one of its level design/encounter scenarios twice more to headache effect. If possible, get the original flashlight -or- gun choice working, itās how the game was designed and itās effective.

The port Iām using doesnāt screw with the core game. Gun -or- flashlight gang!
My only real criticism is that, at least on hard difficulty, armor doesnāt do much to mitigate health loss. Iām usually at over 100 armor and down to 30 or so health after a particularly brutal encounter. And there are armor pickups everywhere but not health pickups.
Played through 4 hours of doom 3 and when it started crashing while trying to load the next level I gave up.
Game is worse than I remember. Not even by comparison to Doom games, it doesnāt stand up either as a solid FPS or as a horror game.
I actually think the gun or flashlight dynamic is meaningless; it comes up so infrequently and so predictably that I permanently retired using the flashlight and just started shooting at shadows first with a pistol and walking through all hallways backwards to spot the monster closets opening up directly behind where me.
Ugly potatoman game with wimpy guns and mediocre monster designs.
And yeah, I was playing vanilla doom 3 with a sourceport, so it was as vanilla an experience as possible

To clarify, I mean whenever I would spot a fully dark area that might have a monster closet I just started shooting in that direction. Flashlight was unnecessary.
