coincidentally the cool little tiny park/island area north of burlingame on the other side of the 101 is getting a facebook building and I’m just really not looking forward to any of it

No ,see, the solution is to become a colonial power yourself. That always works out well.

isn’t this what killmonger wanted

the only marvel movie with good Politic is the Winter Soldier

and i’m probably forgetting something horrible about that one too

Oh I’m not saying Killmonger was right or anything, just that the ending of the movie with Wakanda setting up a colony in Oakland is…yeah…

well yeah it’s not like the movie as written leads one to think “killmonger should’ve won” because after setting him up as the obvious protagonist of a better story they start having him make wildly irrational and destructive decisions

he was too sympathetic and his revolutionary ideology too rooted in actual conditions so he needed to arbitrarily murder his girlfriend and allude to starting his own form of imperialism. luckily t’challa realized there are fundamental issues with american hegemony and white supremacy, but they can be overcome through STEM education and means testing.

yeah and honestly if they wanted to give us a more nuanced story about how a person cannot be driven to become an effective revolutionary without also becoming too damaged or faithless to govern I’m not sure I wouldn’t be on board for a movie that the US air force would still happily sign off on but that is not what we got

what do we do when everyone’s fears of a JOKER-inspired terrorism really do come true, but it’s committed by an enraged Jared Leto after Will Smith reveals he loved Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker so much he sent him a fedex box with a note inviting him to send Smith any dead rats or other rodents he liked, just don’t give his address to Leto, because “I hated that asshole’s dead rats, they were garbage dead rats and contributed to a garbage performance”?

Will Smith loves JOKER so much he crashes the Suicide Squad 2 set and demands to be written into scenes

when are we gonna get an Into the Jokerverse featuring the transdimensional collision of every unreliably recalled Joker origin all played by differently digitally aged versions of Will Smith

Joker is up on Korean streaming services which are typically the first decently watchable torrents after a movie’s theatrical release (parasite was available this way back in like September) and I’ve heard enough mixed opinions that I was mostly interested as a curiosity and wow I hate it

it’s derivative in ways that are almost confusing, it beats you over the head with the late 70s period elements and then it proceeds to be a very literal adaptation of a Martin Scorsese movie to a comic book movie. absolutely unwatchably obvious even without the bad discourse

has anybody written about how the tony stark / peter parker relationship in the MCU is like a weird off brand version of the reed richards / peter parker relationship in the comics, and the subsequent lurch of dread you feel when you realize they’re going to introduce MCU reed richards as spider-man finally getting another Good Daddy?

Dear god I don’t think I can stomach a fantastic four where Reed is anything but an occasionally useful megafuckup.

Hopper? What is this crap

This trailer turned my indifference into actual disdain.
