idk why people keep writing stories about directors calling marvel movies naked pandering commodities because it’s just. trivially obvious. of course it’s pablum.

I’m sorry you changed the way movies were distributed with The Godfather thus allowing for Jaws and the whole Blockbuster model to thrive Francis but here we are

you did it

Joker to me mostly came across as one of those Brit Invasion-era Vertigo comic curios, complete with naivety around the reality of American living whilst still wanting to be critical of it. All broad strokes and visuals. At least there wasn’t a voiceover.

I’ll take ten of these over The Dark Knight trilogy, let alone Marvel or DC aping Marvel, any day, but that doesn’t really put it above more than entertaining.

They seriously need to stop milking the alleyway shooting.

It’s…not great in a lot of ways, yeah.

yeah most of the objectively laudable parts are all in the production design, the story itself is :worried:

i really need to stop posting and thinking about this but if the current trends inspire some reactionary geek culture youtuber to make several hours of ā€œCinema Sinsā€ style videos pointing out all of the continuity errors and goofs in the works of ken loach, it will have all been worth it

Black Panther is the only Marvel movie I’ve kind of liked (actually, about 60% of Iron Man 3, too), but Killmonger is 1,000% the most sympathetic character in it and he’s in real tension with the rest of what the movie ultimately is doing (of course, that there’s actually a productive thematic tension in a Marvel movie is truly standout) and I wish the action sequences weren’t tasteless (as in no flavor, mostly) garbage.

I wish I could say that movie produced thematic (or even dramatic) tension but Killmonger is absolutely and without reservation played as a straight villain and the movie’s politics are nakedly reactionary. I wish it were not so. But it is.

I think Winter Soldier is the only of the Marvel movies I’ll watch multiple times and enjoy. It’s just a good, solid action movie.

It’s so weird for me to watch because it is all just Cleveland. Like it’s distracting. Even places I wouldn’t have thought of are just Cleveland. I think they go in the CIA (or some other government agency) at some point and they are in a giant lobby and that is the main atrium of the Cleveland Art Museum. It’s kinda hilarious because DC and Cleveland are really not similar at all.

the part at the end where t’challa stands in oakland and talks about how he bought all the buildings around him and they’re going to start some foundation to educate black youth in oakland is just like, The Fucking Worst

all you need to do to turn that movie from The Most Progressive Marvel Movie to The Worst is to change wakanda’s name to facebook
