god, i'm so sorry (superhero-comicbook nonsense)

it’s a high schooler whose into serial killers cartoon idea of mental illness. and a parody of taking comic book material super seriously.

it’s not even like it’s mentally ill loners shooting up places in real life it’s white supremacists and misogynists hyping each other up for murder in chat rooms until one of them finally has a bad enough day to go through with it

I think the only dangerous thing about the movie is all the michael moores who are going to watch it and think they got some kind of glimpse into MaDnEsS. joker even says “what happened to civility.” it’s not an incel movie, it’s a movie for “antifa is just as bad as nazis” “we’re so divided now” centrists to watch and pat themselves on the back and think they got some insight into mass shooters.

also what was with the whole super rat thing in the movie. the part where the waynes get offed I was more distracted by the rat as big as a dog scurrying in the background.

there’s a few moments where instead of some edgelord’s idea of iNsAniTy, joaquin does come across as the kind of social inept oddball being weird in public you might get a bad feeling from, or just feel bad for while trying to avoid, and I found the color palette of his joker outfit pleasing

The trailers definitely spoiled every striking image the movie had.

Whoa was this filmed in Baltimore

all this and having an answering machine is not something poor people would have in 1981

also the concept of a viral video filmed from multiple angles of an open mic act would…not be a thing?

I mean it also takes place in the fictional city of Gotham.

But what was the deal with the 9 shot revolver?

Maybe the rat is another tribute to Scorsese

i was curious so i rewatched some scenes from Suicide Squad last night and it is utterly hilarious how Leto’s over the top “method” behind the scenes shenanigans basically resulted in a performance that is like a teen high school film project imitation of Jim Carrey as The Riddler in Batman Forever

His take on the J laugh was a weak croak, half old man and duck.

So I wanted to try and find, iirc from TAS, where Joker turns down some kind of plan as “yech, too Riddler”

Fruitless…though I was reminded of the episode His Silicon Soul, wherein theres a Dupe Robatman and this dialogue:

Bat-Duplicant : You’re lying! It’s not possible! I know my family and friends! I remember names, faces, birthdays! I have memories! A past!

Rossum : You have information. Data. Nothing more. Do you remember your first kiss? Your favorite song? The last time you tasted a really good steak?

It first struck me as reminiscent of Togusa from the interrogation/false memories scene in GITS, a few years later.

But these lines aren’t necessarily that distinct or unique, I’d assume a number of things (dealing with similar subject matter) have put forth those kinds of questions to a “constructed” being, duped identity. I’m just pondering early examples, well at least in contemporary vernacular/literature.
