I feel like I’m watching a showcase from like 3 years ago. Everything is blurring together in a mess of plugs and inconsistent art direction. I feel like the visual rhetoric of next gen gaming is dead and has been replaced by a medley of every genre of advert.

new soul hackers looks cool

I’m also finding it hard to discern anything from the indie trailers when they’re under a minute and barely communicate a concept e.g. High Water shows sailing around then Geoff says it’s a strategy-adventure game

it’s so hard to make broadly large scaled AAA games that so few companies are doing it at this point which means a lot of it is filled out by indie studios now which are looking more and more like AAA-style games. (or yeah, just not enough info is given about them that you don’t really learn anything about the game beyond the trailer)

i guess the counter to this is the Wholesome games stream where there is a consistent theme but everything blends together so much it ends up feeling sickly sweet

The Quarry looks to finally have a god damn sense of humor again after the miserable anthology games straight-faced depiction of Pazuzu in the Iraq War

no wonder the iPhone’s Canadian English dictionary keeps correcting Square-Enix to Square-Enid

im watching this and geoff keeps saying “wow a whole new indie game with industry legends epic team up” and bringing out two people that i have no idea who they are or why they are important even after being told their names

It’s a shame how the selling point of self-expression in Saint’s Row just boils down to neon.

I’d love a feature that just switches the character creation sliders every 5 seconds like this trailer

i feel like if there where a wholsome showcase ( might be due for one soon? idr ) i would at least wanna maybe play SOMETHING. i came in late but there is not a single game from this list i care ab besides soul hackers and like it’s not because it’s gonna have a dub. i already heard ab it from gematsu or something months ago.

if this is the state of games i can see why y’all shit on so many things all the time

the Wholesome Direct is happening early on Saturday (12:30 EDT apparently). i think you’d be surprised re: wanting to play something on that stream lol but maybe your tastes are different than mine.

and yeah tbh i watch these mostly as kitsch entertainment than trying to find stuff to play. that Nightingale game looked not bad to me though.

no new Silent Hill info but we get to see another incredibly mid higher production value horror game with extremely overdone voice acting courtesy of Bloober Team, bastions of the mid horror
