Gamestop

I still don’t understand the significance and I was hoping maybe I’d catch it on Twitter but I don’t know if this is a financial thing or a meme thing

The Bed Bath and Beyond unlimited 20% off for $30/yr deal is great if you’re moving

That’s the extent of my financial savvy

Bed, Bath and Beyond is also being shorted by hedge funds. Basically every stock that’s ticked up in the last week is one that some hedge fund was already shorting and possibly over leveraging so people assume the same dynamic that applied to GME applies to those others.

Edit-Robinhood isn’t letting people buy any more shares of GME.

This was all too entertaining to resist, and so I bought one share of GME within my work retirement account this morning. It immediately rose by $150. When all those limitations started being put into place it dropped by almost $200. Now it’s breaking even again.

comrade ja at it again. :fire:

auspicious

i have definitely been appreciating all of the different explanations of what is going on and how the nature of the stock market has allowed it to happen, but it is still so funny to me how all of these explanations depend on the reader being able to accept the basic premise of buying and selling stocks, which, i’m sorry, requires some kind of imagination or suspension of disbelief that i literally do not think is possible unless you’re fully immersed in financial stuff

like all of the threads that begin like “Want to know what’s going on with GameStop? OK - Here’s a quick explainer. So, first of all, a thousand years ago a bunch of barons decided they wanted to sell imaginary bacon to one another [THREAD]”

The #1 thing people get tripped up on from what I’ve read is actually buying stocks vs. buying and manipulating options. The phrase “stock options” is in common vernacular but the definition as a kind of contract is unintuitive bullshit unless you’ve interacted with it.

A stock app named Robinhood is enough to make me steer clear.

Now a dance developed by and named after a street gang called the Errol Flynns? That I’m into.
