all those “and then a cool thing happens off-screen” bits are discrete online co-op missions that you can do outside of the main campaign.
yeah i would’ve really liked for there to be more chaotic clusterfuck missions where everyone is fighting everyone else, but i confess that i kinda forgot about it being a possibility because i was so hoping that they were gonna introduce necrons as their real surprise reveal enemy
I started The Sun Shines Over Us. It’s an Indonesian visual novel that focuses on the mental-health issues of high schoolers with a focus on CW: bullying, eating disorders.
The game has a few audiobugs which make it feel like it’s falling apart at times, but the setting and visual style are at least novel enough for me to stick with it for a bit. Character art has a very clean look and the sprites sort of pulse during dialogue like they’re breathing. Am not sure how I feel about animated character art in visual novels. Not sure how much of the art should stand on pure illustration versus animation and I find that moving characters can sometimes be a bit distracting from the partial degree of imagination that VNs afford. This doesn’t feel like it’s ruining my experience here though.
I’ve only played enough to introduce the entire cast and hint at their deeper problems. The main character that you play as has a lot of flashbacks to bullying whenever confronted with difficult social situations which I think it handles quite well. Interestingly, the scenes where the character goes to counselling or has a flashback to the same therapy sessions are more directly uncomfortable for me to read since they hit closer to home from my experience of bullying at this age compared to the ‘in the moment’ trigger. I’ll give it a bit more of a stew but not sure how we’ll go. Cordial interest.
Tried out the IGS Arcade Collection on switch. The games are all pretty good, but it feels like they got some interns to make this collection.
There’s some real AtGames plug n play vibes with the sound emulation. I checked a YouTube playthrough of Knights if Valour 2 and can confirm the girl isn’t supposed to sound like a chipmunk.
There’s no sound whatsoever on the main menu either, and it seems like you have to switch to 4:3 aspect ratio each time because even though it saves the screen settings, it doesn’t apply on start up for some reason.
It’s better than it was at launch (forced 16:9 plus that smoothing filter…), but unfortunately the update that added 4:3 didn’t help with the input lag any.
I accidentally canceled the paramedic mission in gta3 trying to turn off the annoying siren on level 8 of 12 and I think I’m going to just kill myself right now. No infinite sprint for me!!!
I always do the paramedic mission first, especially on GTA 3, because if you wait until you get to the other islands you end up having to pick up patients on a different island and you likely can’t tell they’re over there in time to get there. At least that’s what it was like on PS2 because there was no pause screen map and the mini map didn’t really zoom out far enough most of the time unless you were driving really fast. So it’s probably not an issue now on newer versions that have the pause screen map. Either way it always takes about a solid 40 minutes or so to do those so I don’t blame you for skipping it.
