I’ve been alternating between new Fire Emblem, Danganronpa 2, and Tetris the Grand Master VS mode.

Been playing a lot of Breath of the Wild. It’s pleasant, it’s fine, I like it, but it’s not appreciably different from the upper tier of lawnmower sims, like Horizon. Except it doesn’t actually put the icons on the map, which I do appreciate, but it’s also a Nintendo game and it kind of goes out of its way to guide you to all its warm trembling parts. I guess I ought to play Elden Ring.

I beat the Legend of Zelda’s second quest for the first time. It was very hard. I swear I didn’t die that many times on purpose. It’s just more proof that God is real and I am great.

Last night I played some of a hidden object game called Hygge is… I had on my phone. Honestly I can’t remember what compelled me to download this game ages ago.
Anyway the aesthetic is Pottery Barn catalog mixed with flat 2-D drawings that look like Corporate Memphis Storybook or something so that’s also baffling. Like I don’t think I even got suckered in by the graphics.
I played for 20 minutes and deleted it off my phone.

When I recently revisited the second quest I was relieved that it doesn’t pull any unreasonable BS with the red and blue bubbles. They’re always like a room apart if you need to restore your sword.
I remembered it being much more unforgiving.

I got boned by a few later on in the game but maybe I just didn’t have the locations figured out.
Worst was probably when I died after getting hit by a red ball and respawned without a sword!! That blew my mind, it was so mean!! Also had to map p2 up and A to my keyboard so I could bring up the save menu cuz I got stuck in dungeons like twice.
Was fun though, I accidentally had a dungeon location spoiled for me and I abused save states a bit in the final dungeon cuz I just wanted to go to bed but otherwise I beat it legit and that felt…pretty good.

I played though Rez yesterday for the first time in a year or two. I’m glad it keeps getting carried forward through new console generations. Maybe that will encourage someone to make a game this good again one day.

Stray (PS5) - it’s okay. Some cute ideas. Makes me want a better cat game, ultimately
Balan Wonderworld (PS5) - continues to confuse and delight. I resonate with the vibe of this game more than anything else on PS5, there is something really powerful about its obstinance. Childlike
Wytchwood (PS5) - yep, seems like the Continue option is broken, use the Load option instead. Why does this game drop to like 15 FPS in the shrine area? Anyway I’m glad there seems to be a workaround for the bugs
Chorus (PS5) - cool game, but really wish you could manually roll lol. Not sure about the main character’s internal monologue…
Q*Bert: Rebooted (PS4) - rather mediocre. It does have the original arcade game here as a bonus, at least. Pretty bare, but it’s more Q*Bert if you needed that. Inferior to Q*Bert 3 on SNES as far as I’m concerned
Left Alive (PS4) - extremely bad, but fascinating nonetheless… a unique, strange thing

i think playing something i already know i like is a good cure for winter blues…
here’s my endgame party. the geomancer has two rune swords equipped to boost the hell out of her iaido (cause it’s all based on magic power), the summoner has a lot of time mage skills. i gave everyone teleport bc theyd eventually all learned enough from jp spillover to get it lol. just 5 assholes teleporting around drawing magic katana spells on you. i actually changed ramza to a two sword squire at the end with two of the unique knight swords (ragnarok and excalibur) and he was whacking ultima for 1.2k each turn after a couple shouts… made very quick work of her lol. took me a little over 30hrs in all
i don’t have any particular more insights into this than i did last time… the wotl script is really quite decent and the pencil sketch videos are really much cuter than the blocky contracted out cgi vids… it’s not about the story itself for me (tho ofc i adore the entire relationship between ramza and delita) so much as it is about like… watching this drama play out as if on a stage
not that i think anyone forgot but this is such an amazing looking game…
i dont think anything else except maybe vagrant story understands this idea that tabletop gaming = theatrical blocking??? as well as this and it’s probably the thing that a dickriding fft game like triangle strategy doesnt Get most of all (and why i rlly dont get a lot out of fire emblem—theyre map games!!!) steven spielberg likes to block out scenes with little diagrams… and we all know about kojima designing mgs1+2 with lego blocks (cause i wont shut up abt it)
yknow what are actually some Very Good srpgs tho (neither of which ive finished 
) that no one talks about… wild arms xf (hugely recommended for ppl who adore the job system of fft in particular check cd romance for the undub unless ur like enamored with persona voice acting) and valykrie profile ds… actually as far as what ive played i think they might be some of the best post-fft tactics games. a whole genre of games all trying to relive this glory…
currently torrenting tactics ogre reborn… it’s the obvious place to look but i never played it bc it’s all 2d.
ok… i really should kill The Boss and finish the last dungeon of digital devil saga lol
