I’m not sure how much of this is available in the demo, but there are options in the full version to adjust how fast the game runs. I am also pretty sure there are several different camera options (there at least was in prior games).

I have a soft spot for how much the game’s career mode is crammed full of extra stuff, everything takes place on a city street where all the wrestlers I guess live and you can get into extra fights or find a shovel and dig a hole you can crawl down into I guess the subway.

Yeah it’s funny reading the reviews of the game, people talk about all the funky stuff they’ve done in the career mode. ^) ^ Some of it sounds similar to what little I’ve seen of WWF No Mercy’s career mode.

I did look through the options in the demo but they seemed pretty bare. I wasn’t thinking about speed at the time so maybe there was something there. … Mmm, no.

Camera control–and which character you’re controlling, including the ref–is on the shoulder buttons, which is actually kind of bad 'cause I kept hitting it accidentally, so that wasn’t helping me.

The Combatribes SFC

Technos Japan were never quite able to replicate the magic that made their original Double Dragon a runaway success and foundational game in the birth of the beat-em-up, and in Combatribes, which I’ve read is meant as a follow-up to the pre-Double Dragon “Renegade,” they seem to have gone for a simpler, faster-paced approach; possibly this works in two-player mode where dominoing enemies into each other could result in some impressive screen-clearing action, but in single-player at least it means you’re constantly swarmed and battered by leaping hordes of the oddly diminutive rank-and-file enemies, which is not my favorite way to go through a game.

Think I could do a bit better next time by avoiding punches when facing multiple foes–which is almost always–because that tends to result in your character picking them up by their lapels with the proximity grab move, which means you’re not punching for a moment–plenty of time for whatever non-grabbed enemy is there to bash you.

All you’ve got is Punch and Kick–no Jump button even, but two of the three selectable characters do a jump-kick when running; there are some promising moves you’ll do on downed characters, depending on how you approach them, but the most promising, picking them up by their ankles and whirling them around, sending everyone else flying, requires you to hit Punch at the correct spot near their ankles, and I guess I’m not clear on the exact position required because I kept missing this–except in the weirdly repeated elevator sequence, where the cramped quarters enforce just the right spacing to whirl the two little bald guys into each other repeatedly. ; D

It’s a bit exhausting by the end but at least it’s fast and colorful–oh, and there’s a 30-credit cheat (hold Select+R+L while hitting Reset and waiting through the title screen) that takes the stress of running out of single-life continues out of the thing, thank goodness.

The “fighting game” mode is worse than the one in Double Dragon for NES, at least in that one you got to look at different character sprites…and I think the AI wasn’t quite so mean maybe.

The main game’s last level is a lot like the one in Technos’ Double Dragon II on Game Boy: starting from the lobby, you battle up through the floors of their skyscraper (these New York gangs always had their own skyscraper, you know!), through a boss rush broken up by a repeated elevator fight (four times, same each time, only got more hilarious ^ )^), and to the penthouse, although this one even went a bit further up than that. Something of a twist on the usual boss, too.

Took a quick peak on the game’s steam forums and seemingly the demo is based off an older build of the game, so yeah you probably can’t adjust the game speed in it. Not that it helps you but apparently in the actual game you can adjust the speed up to 200%.

I forgot how much grinding is in fucking Gran Turismo 3. The Clubman Cup, the second race series in the game, is actually impossible to do with beginner cars. There’s only so many you can buy with the starting currency of 18k, and only so many cars you can win at this stage. the CPU cars were beating me every single time. I’d use the paltry winnings to get incremental upgrades, like tires and mild power upgrades, and I still couldn’t get better than 2nd place. So I did the “Spider and Roadster” series, which has faster CPU cars, and I still did it in one try. I used the money from this to get a turbo for the miata I was driving, to finally beat this last race.

I took screenshots of the lap times, and I’m pretty sure the ones in the clubman are faster than the Spider and Roadster series (there’s a race on Deep Forest in both)

Oh huh! Thanks, that’s good to know. “”: )

I’m a major MDickie stan, have been since I played Hard Time back in the late 00s. He is truly a wrestling genius. Only disappointment for Wrestling Empire is it’s not as moddable as its predecessor. Still, he continues to make the game more and more deranged with every update, and I can only admire that sort of dedication.

wo long has a pretty good character creator, behold my warrior, goro majima after 3 years HRT

the stat page is full of Good Ass Numbers, i’ve been thinking about raising my wood level all day

unfortunately the game does not feel like my kind of thing? the first boss is endlessly wailing on an unmoving health bar until it does an elaborately animated attack which you have to guess the active frames on then parry and counter. it’s kinda like sekiro if instead of rock papers scissors your opponent does the de-generation X “suck it” dance for an indeterminate amount of time before always throwing rock. there’s a second phase where you instantly die for guessing wrong and that was the point i decided this wasn’t my flavour of suffering :woman_shrugging:t2:

im mostly enjoying wo long, but it seems to both have too many and not enough buttons. i think this game would have been better getting a step away from the souls format and not being based around r3 lock on combat, it gets really clumsy at points with mobs/double tapping parry being dodge/npc teammates interrupting.
not sure i would recommend this to a lot of people, but it’s comfort food for me at this point. i think team ninja have got really got at their closed off level design for these games.

Descenders is SO good, oh my god. Why did I put playing this off?? I love biking IRL so of course I love biking at 65 kmph down a giant hill and straight into the wall of a castle. Perfect. This game is SO GOOD at making you feel like you are going nutso fast.

Lots of little things to quibble about in the game–the “grand tour” quests are bizarrely sequenced and IMO unnecessarily difficult for the early part of the game. I’m also like, VERY bad at this game… but I’m excited to get better because it does feel like this is a game that you can get extremely skilled at!!

I started biking again this weekend so my need for digital biking is reduced but it was good to explore this over the last week when I was at my most resentful about not being able to bike

I have been playing Maverick Hunter X lately, but I find it very frustrating and do not like it. Boss battles are stressful and not fun (for me) and I dislike levels as well.
Graphically, it is beautiful, but I don’t really understand if its limited gameplay dynamics are bad, or I just am not the Megaman type.

I played marvels avengers like that guy at the store said to fuckin turn off my brain and do, but unfortunatley i could do only half of that because i hate slop

Pros:
-kate bishop (hawkeye 2) is easily the best character in the game, sorry thor
-but also i threw thors hammer at a guy in the 1st mission and he flew out of the map
-the closest thing you will ever get to a ms marvel game

Cons:
-its based on the MCU
-even as someone who likes comics the fanservice in this game literally made me want to barf like holy shit Kamala Khan getting into a fight with HATERZ who think superheroes are gay and captain america literally appearing behind her to put his hand on her shoulder and say “You know, what you did back there was pretty brave,” in fact theres actually at least two instances in this game where haters who think superheroes are lame get owned for their foolish beliefs
-All of the avengers talk to kamala one on one in the prologue where shes a kid and they all address her in this weirdly conspiratorial way like they know theyre all going to see her later that would have made me go insane if i was in her position
-MODOK LOOKS BAD!!!
-i am never standing in another goddamn circle waiting for a bar to fill up to 100% ever again it fucking sucks in warframe or destiny or whatever and it fucking sucks here
-it is literally destiny like i love playing a single player game and talking to an NPC and having to wait for a 5 second timer to elapse before the conversation starts and walking around a big empty hub area

my dad sent me a message saying “Iron man is in this game. Cool !!” so i guess thats the target audience

I’ve only played through the Kate Bishop stuff, I think. Did you play any of the stuff after that? How was it?

My biggest complaint with Misadventures was that you could only play the ransacking the town missions once. Those felt like the true heart of the game as far as showing the characters in their element and seeing more of the servbot personalities play out in that frame work. RPG missions were also good for that but being just a camera bot takes away some of the humor of Tron’s body language trying to keep her neurodivergent swarm of lego men together.
