I once played a one-shot game of Dogs in the Vineyard where I escalated to guns for the thrill of it… I’d never used a gun in Dogs before because it’s so dangerous. You can’t die if you don’t escalate to lethal force, so I’d almost never escalated to lethal force before. Anyway the first time I used a gun in Dogs, I killed an enemy demonic horse fetus thing in one shot… then I rolled the fallout dice and got the biggest possible fallout dice failure possible and died instantly from my heart exploding as a parting shot from the horse fetus. I never escalated to guns in Dogs again lmao
this is exactly why ditv rules
I love the ante up dice system so much. Perfect dice system. The whole fallout consequences mechanic is brilliant and more shit should steal it.
I once got absolutely debilitating mental terror of Community Elders as a consequence for losing an argument and then for months every session I did with my group I had to roleplay as terrified of all old people. LIke I had to immediately concede to everything they asked of me and never ever run the risk of disappointing them
1 Bit Survivor is a little pared-down roguelike with simple mechanical premise: find the gas can on every screen and bring it back to your car so you can move on. You have a pistol with a few shots and can knife attack things that are next to you. It’s turn based in the way you’d expect.
What’s good here is the fun presentation. When you pick up health or ammo or use your gun/knife a little first-person overlay pops up to illustrate the action. Also the narrative premise is fun: survive the zombie apocalypse for the sake of your cat
i simply had an incident where i beat a boss after much difficulty with a sliver of health left and then the guy exploded and killed me, then i reacted how a normal red blooded gamer would, by slamming alt-f4 and then complaining on the internet
failure in games is only funny if you’re already vibing with the game
it would have been funnier if i were in a better mood
Arcade Archives Double Dragon II: The Revenge (PS4)
Okay the plot’s a bit rough er but how’s the actual game?
Also I can’t get the hang of the directional attack buttons. ; )
One big caveat here is that the time it takes to get that second victory after said final cheapshot is important. I’ve had times where I struggled against a hard boss, died to a last minute thing like that which was impossible to predict, and then had to struggle again through another hour-plus full of frustration and failed attempts before finally managing to just get past it. That ain’t fun, that’s obnoxious.
Like it is years later and the game I was thinking about when typing that was DMC 1, a poorly aged game that did that shit to me twice. I’ve never played another DMC game and almost certainly never will despite knowing for a fact several people here think highly of later entries, they burnt that bridge all the way down but hey, they got me so I’m sure it was worthwhile.
The surprise final attacks in Rondo can’t actually kill you, don’t they? Speedrunners run into them on purpose because low health makes the level-end bonus tick down faster.
Really dissapointed in some of you admitting you like video games, i thought this place was different.
i would buy a ticket to watch you play mgs2 at this point. it’s a delight to read someone’s mostly (?) unspoiled impressions
I really liked Fatal Frame’s arcadey-esque feel which is brushed aside in assessments in favour over the horror design which felt admirably half baked which made the capital s Sequel Crimson Butterfly so dissapointing. Knew something was wrong the moment they went from a simplistic point based upgrade system to a Key system and Even More Content over the intimate original.
And yet The Tormented is easily the best one yet. Knew it was a good sign where you have these warm blue autumn shades over crimson’s oppressive reds which gives a wonderful clarity that’s shattered as the game gets darker as it gets on. The multiple character gambit even works! And I like the framing devices as a reprieve over the gamefeel (ugh) of butterfly (compare the simple shutter system in this and the original over the second’s needlessly Number design)
I should play a bunch of metal gear and report to the sb, all I ever did was some brief playing of the nes one and mgs3 ages ago
yeah part of the reason you see posts like “I died because the boss blew up and killed me” is because they’re frustrating to me, but to somebody else, they must be very funny
I wish “hater” was still posting. I always appreciated their absolute lack of appreciation of any and all videogames
who is accusing me of liking video games
this is very close to calling me a g*mer and if such language is used in reference to me, you’ll be hearing from my lawyers
be the hater you wish to see in the world
