I wouldn’t have minded picking up ammo if there wasn’t ammo to pick up literally every two steps I took
Not an FPS but TLOU 1 and 2 lets you choose if you want to pick up ammo (default) or just run by it to collect it
I would never change that though, playing on Grounded I must check every drawer manually to make sure it’s empty
That falls pretty hard on my line of design just didn’t finish their job vs giving the player options
TLOU games have a lot of really interesting accessibility options, I would say it’s more just a part of that. The default option (manual pickup) feels right to me. But they are long games and some players would want to save time maybe?
Final Fantasy III: Ancient’s Maze → Eureka → Crystal Tower is fucking stupid.
harmony of dissonance has you spending way too much time traipsing back and forth between portals, trying to find the one important place that has opened up every time you get a new ability
yeah easily the worst thing about hod is how much you have to zip dash around a neon bisexual lighting castle while listening to one of the greatest ost’s ever made.
I’ve been playing horizon zero dawn. I mostly really like it because it feels like a goofy 70’s new agey scifi movie (one of my favorite genres of b-movie) where the pinch centers around post-apocalyptic holy wars centered around heretical interpretations of dr. bronner’s soap labels. when I’m not feeling as kind to it feels more like “what if civilization ended but burning man did not?”. when I’m not feeling very kind to myself, I start reckoning with the possibility that both are very much describing the same thing
it’s fun though! feels like it really wants to be botw and mgsV and lands squarely between them with a thin layer of souls-like seasoning on top. I was worried it was gonna be an open-world checklist slog, and it has elements of that, but base gameplay loop is tight and varied enough… and boy it sure is pretty!
i had my controller plugged in and the little usb hub fell off the desk during one of the bits where you stealth around body thetans in death stranding and i legit jumped
So I’m finally playing Nocturne, the remastered version on Switch. So far I gotta admit it feels pretty dry. A bunch of mysterious anime stock characters spouting spooky mumbo jumbo about prophecies etc. It feels like there’s no stakes because after 30 minutes the world “ends” and I haven’t even had a chance to get to know any of the characters. Who cares what happens now?
I spent the first hour not knowing how to talk to demons or use items during combat because I didn’t intuit that you had to hit left/right to access other parts of the combat menu. I deadass thought the game was going to give me those options later and I just had to make do with attack/magic lol.
So far one of my demons evolving is the most exciting thing that’s happened. I had a good chuckle when I got to the overworld and you just move a cursor around but still get into random battles.
I find Everybody’s golf on PS4 tasteful and gorgeous but… TBH for Easy Come Easy Golf, Clap Hanz really went way too far with their normiecore aesthetic and have landed into this Disney / Mobile Game / Horizon Worlds hell
Pretty cool how the closest thing to a main character has a lazy eye though
Yeah I feel less strongly about it now than when I wrote that.
I will say its kinda interesting that there are multiple children and old people. Still ugly tho
Tomb Raider is frustrating but there’s also a lot to like. the environments really keep me going in spite of how frustrating some of the jumping/camera stuff is for me. in particular this level has been really enjoyable
i always love a good temple
i hate to use the word “vibes” but you get the picture.
looks like you don’t have the Midas touch anymore, motherfucker
i thought i was being all cool by playing the PSX version with emulator but it turns out you can save anywhere in the PC version. whoops. i dunno how easy it is to set things up to work with a controller, though, so i’ll keep with this version. no way i’m playing with the keyboard. if i play through TR2 at some point i might try the PC version instead though
also in “St Francis Folly”, an earlier level where the main section looks like this
… which caused me considerable trauma and PTSD, there was a routine jump at the beginning of the level that caused me to be utterly convinced that either the emulator or the version of the game i was using was bugged. i just could not make the jump, whatever i did. i actually made a post on here panicked about not being able to progress in the game before trying the jump one more time in desperation and finally landing it (so deleted my post). this fucking game!!
It would seem I’ve run into my first “go grind a few levels and fuse some new demons, ya chump” bosses in SMT3, the infamous Matador. It’s about as annoying as showing up to a gym in Pokémon and realizing your main 'mon are vulnerable to the types there.
Here’s my number 1 complaint about this game, though: there’s basically no respite from random encounters anywhere. I can’t even run around a “village” and do some shopping without pausing for combat every minute. That might wind up wearing me out prematurely even if the story starts to draw me in more. I’ve gotten pretty spoiled by recent JRPGs which give you a bit more ability to avoid fights when you’re really not in the mood.
Also suddenly holding a Switch Lite in my hands for any length of time is pretty painful, which sucks. Gonna have to figure out something to do about that.
so much for a vibe free life-style, liz!!!
also do you turn to gold if you touch the hand?
not true!!!
oh wow lmao. i’m surprised i didn’t accidentally stumble into that. pretty cool tho esp in a game that just loves to find new ways to kill you
Merciful mode not only makes battles (too) easy, it also significantly reduces the encounter rate. I think you can swap between normal and merciful any time, iirc.
I’ll have to look into that because sometimes all I want to do is backtrack to check out if there’s treasure in a side hallway and I don’t feel like getting into 8 extra fights.
