Games You Played Today The Nonbiri Express '09 (Galaxie ((500×2)−1)) 9小時9人9ゲーム LOOK I MADE IT LONGER: The Power of One

I can’t remember the source, but I remember hearing that originally Booker was going to bang Elizabeth at one point before people finally convinced Levign to cut that shit out

When I played it I had it on a PSX emulator on my computer so I could crank up the FPS and resolution to make things more readable. Even then the lengthy scene transitions made the game feel slower than I wanted it to. That said: fantastic music and mood. Does street racing better than a lot of other games. Wishing the people making Need For Speed played it at all.

This is completely unsurprising.

For plot reasons it is a very good thing he doesn’t

this link might be useful to you

and since you’re so inexperienced with sony stuff, these also might be 1 2 3

Thanks for the links! Yeah I figured out CDRomance. Ill check out those others. The reason it has to use the ResEvil game ID is because Adrenaline (the software for accessing the PSP hardware on the Vita) doesn’t load the correct speedhacks for this particular game, so loading the ID for ResEvil makes it run correctly. I could not get it to run (edit: run at full speed) with any prebaked eboot :frowning: but maybe that was me.

ah, i see. i didn’t know that about racing lagoon, i haven’t really tried it out much.

i remember in the ancient times when people figured out hacking the psp, every unofficial ps1 game you could find online had the id for hot shot golf 2

i remember one early psp hack involved an unpatched copy of liberty city stories

Started playing Eiyuden Chronicles, and I’m both pleasantly surprised and also slightly miffed at how it’s literally just Suikoden 2. Like not even Suikoden 2 reimagined for 2024, it’s just straight up the same game, bugs and goofy translation and opaque recruitment requirements and “two buds on opposite sides of the conflict” story and all.

Suikoden 2 was a major game for me in my youth so it’s fine to run it back but also they’ve had 26 years to consider how to refine it and besides a barebones gambit system for autobattle they’ve really done nothing.

I’m playing the game on hard mode with a bunch of optional difficulty sliders turned up because I started on normal and after 60 minutes of hitting auto battle on every single random battle and boss and surfing my phone while the battles resolved, I could feel my enthusiasm rapidly slipping, and even with the difficulty options on most of the game still revolves around hitting auto battle for 50 random battles per dungeon but at least now I have to kind of focus when I fight bosses (never in any real danger of dying though)

Still, nothing has ever directly hit the endorphin centers of my brain quite like the character collection / castle building systems of mainline Suikoden games so as long as they stick the landing with that I’ll probably wind up enjoying myself. Haven’t gotten the castle yet but the characters I’ve collected have all been at least basically endearing and the spritework has been good enough.

Started playing Golden Tee emulated because I love golf video games.
Golden Tee uses a track ball to emulate a swing but I dont have one so Im using an analog stick and that makes it absurdly sensitive.
So I can only reliably smash it the max distance of any given club. You can try to delicately tap it to do less but its really hard.
This changes the game by making drives and wild shots easy but chipping absurdly hard.

i split a bunch of posts into the thread about “immersion” holla at me if u want ur post to go back in this thread

play tiger woods 04! it’s painfully mid 2000s EA, so you have to be able to stomach that, and it’s too easy if you aren’t playing one of the crazy courses, but other than that it’s pretty peak golf game.

haven’t posted here for awhile, so i honestly can’t remember what i’ve played since then. i think Faxanadu, Powerslave: Exhumed, Manifold Garden, Mosa Lina… uh some others

i have been playing through B3313 currently though. i messed with version 0.7 awhile back, but since it’s officially in 1.0 (or 1.02 i guess) now i decided it was fully time to dive back in again.

i admit to not really caring about the personalized copy of Mario 64 meme or the various ways the areas in this hack echoes different beta builds of Mario 64. i like Mario 64 a lot, but it is wild the way that game has been metabolized into the consciousness of videogame world. i never thought i’d say i was completely tired of hearing about and seeing Mario 64 levels at this point, but here we are.

i said on twitter that B3313 it feels almost like an AAA game to me in that there are isolated moments that are unique and brilliant and then others that are just sort of… there. you’ll spend 15 minutes wandering through a bunch of fairly bland, indistinct rooms and corridors and then you’ll come upon places like this

i dunno if that’s the nature of things of this size, or that multiple people were involved with the dev after a certain point. i think the encyclopedic meme origins and the perhaps multiple contributors explains something about the relative inconsistency/arbitrariness of how it feels to play. totally strange and unique areas will be juxtaposed by bland corridors and mazes. legitimately cool moments of atmosphere will be undercut by dumb “look how edgy this is” moments. i think the biggest example are text by some of the bob-ombs you can talk to, but also like dark void areas that crash the game.

the creepypasta atmosphere can also be effective at times, like with this no-eyed Peach here, tho:

things you do or pick up will affect the game in really bizarre five levels deep ways that i don’t even want to attempt to unpack. i.e. you gain more of your original moveset back, the levels look a little different? i think some other stuff also. but also this happens in ways that feel kind of not directed in any particular direction.

the game will also sometimes do something really interesting with variations on the original Mario 64 levels. there are so many variations of Bob-Omb Battlefield that are pretty interesting:

but other times it feels like you wish you were spending more time in the new areas where you’re wandering around large desolate cities and things like that, and less in the 4th variation of old Mario 64 levels. it feels like that nostalgia/commentary angle is just hampering the experience overall. especially when you get to places in particular the dark bizarre glitched out room with weird glitched out music that has a weird pointy box you can go in that is incredibly hostile/hard to navigate and is laid out like a circuit board, which is one of my favorite areas:

also the large red hazey areas definitely add a very specific vibe to a lot of areas of the hack. i think the glitched textures are a rare occurrence but i managed to capture one here:

but yeah. there is nothing like B3313 out there and i’m glad it exists. it’s still probably like a 4 or 4 and a 1/2 star experience to me (for exactly what it is and what it isn’t anyway) and it could have an enormous impact on a lot of games stuff that comes further down the line. but it is a complete fucking mess. it doesn’t have the narrative coherence of a MyHouse which i guess is the other big artsy creepypasta game mod of the moment. and it doesn’t have the artful direction of a Yume Nikki, which it is obviously cribbing the general kind of surreal abstract multidimensional wander maze thing from.

weirdly in a way this kind of uneven hostile architecture thing that sometimes elegantly, sometimes somewhat unprofessionally morphs into different styles at different moments reminds me the most of A.L.T., the doom wad i talk about all the time… even if it’s much structurally closer to Yume Nikki. both are extremely ambitious in a way i don’t think anything else is, while carrying a vibe all the way through. but i like stuff that i guess attaches itself more to telling a specific kind of story through what it’s doing, and B3313 is a bit too much online meme-referencing for me to take that aspect of it very seriously (compared to A.L.T. or Myhouse or Yume Nikki, etc).

anyway, i’m close to 100 stars now. there are an absurd number of them so i dunno how much longer i will play - i guess i’ll try to track down the “ending” stage at some point tho. but yeah, glad it exists because there is nothing like it out there: but it is a complete mess.

yeah i have a copy of it - it’s…pretty good!

i feel like maybe this is a me-specific take but Mosa Lina needs a much goofier soundscape, the ominous industrial ambient soundscape works against the hand crafted play-around-see-what-happens-and-fail-or-succeed-unexpectedly vibe.

The whooshing emptiness makes more sense for Starseed Pilgrim type stuff but the Warioware-esque pacing & that ur expected to fail and be chill encountering no-win scenarios to me demands like…a moog or something. The sfx are a little more in line with that but the whooshing & dark backgrounds just sort of gives it a dour vibe that i think detracts ? i dont think it sounds bad or anything like that it simply makes me want to play the game less because it seems so stern which is not the mood the game seems 2 be best approached in.

i guess i have to strongly disagree here - the way the sort of crypic Selected Ambient Works Vol II style music/soundscape (srsly it’s so obviously indebted to that) in Mosa Lina contrasts with the goofier/chaotic tone of the puzzles is maybe my absolute favorite thing about that game. it makes it a little more weird and indefinable - it’s completely unlike any combo i’ve seen in a game like that. i like it when things tonally clash in interesting and unique ways like that, and i feel like game developers are often really scared to do it in ways that make for less interesting experiences.

also re: B3313 - already discovered several new areas after feeling stuck going back over the same places for awhile.

this part was genuinely unsettling. i won’t say why so i don’t spoil it

this weird purple alternate universe area felt like it was leading somewhere climactic until it didn’t. the story of this romhack i guess.

spoiler:

Summary

i’m sorry but fuck some of this creepypasta “i’m gonna freeze your game now with spooky guy” type shit. i wasn’t sure if i was supposed to outrun this guy or not but i gave up save/loadscumming after a certain point.
