Games You Played Today ##RELOAD

I’m attempting to sink my teeth into Revolver360 RE:ACTOR or however that’s stylized as a palate cleanser after playing a bunch of heavy-narrative/light-gameplay type of games in a row. I like it! If I have one complaint, for some reason the menus load reaaaaaalllllyyy slowly. The rest of the game is buttery smooth though!

Played The Beginner’s Guide. Didn’t really like it.

Beat the main story in JC3 last night. Last mission was pretty underwhelming. Afterwards you can un-liberate settlements so you have stuff to blow up again. I’m not sure if you can do the same to bases as it was 2AM and I immediately went to bed without trying, but I sure hope you can because liberating towns got pretty boring. Get helicopter, hover around to find what needs exploding, then explode it. Land, take out the police station. Yawn. Bases usually ended up with me getting shot down and something interesting happening.

The mailman delivered a birthday package this morning, containing Mario Maker, Fantasy Life, and the newest Layton game. Getting MGS5 soon too. Decided to hold off on The Witness and XCOM2 for the time being as my backlog is getting uncomfortable again, even after declaring Steam-guilt bankruptcy.

yeah the last mission was ironically one of the few times they were nailed by typical open world pitfalls, like “it’s almost impossible to make bossfights interesting in this engine”

The second to last was actually worse. Oh, you lost your jet? Better hoof it for like 15 minutes to watch a cutscene. Seriously, what was the point of making me climb that fucking mountain, again. Obviously I should have just summoned a vehicle but the game kept stealing them pretty much every cutscene so I said fuck it. Ran out of speed over a lake and spent fucking 5 minutes swimming because there was nothing to tether to. 15 seconds from shore an enemy boat teleported in and nearly killed me. I don’t know if I could have handled loading screen purgatory without screaming at that point, I just wanted to be done with the mission.

Started playing the Layton game, which is apparently not the latest one but whatever. Beat the first puzzle whatever then an action sequence?

What the fuck?

I am actually pissed about this! I wanted to have a little game where I poke at little puzzles with little time pressure. And then, right from the start, there’s this shitty action sequence? The controls blow, and the only challenge is that the controls blow. What the fuck, why would you sully this perfectly enjoyable series with fucking garbage swipe on the screen to dodge barrels bullshit. This better not be a recurring thing.

To be fair, focus and restraint were never really in Level 5’s skillset to begin with.

Well with DQ8, they had someone else around to limit them a bit (the Square-Enix people). I wonder if anyone outside the company was involved in the original Layton? They seem to work best when with other people.

Congratulations, I read this post and now I have to play more Diablo

Is this thread showing that it’s pinned but not actually staying pinned for anyone else?

NVM but I don’t know when I changed the setting. It is a mystery~

I managed to get Dark Souls running on my laptop by fiddling with DSfix. It runs pretty decently on a machine it was absolutely not made to work for, but i got one hilarious glitch: when i entered the part of Undead Burg where the dragon lands in front of you, he instead landed RIGHT ON TOP OF ME and killed me instantly. It owned i wasn’t even mad

This is the beauty of unofficial patches, ROM hacks, and really low budget games all in one post

My second captain in Sunless Sea has about 50% of the map explored after experiencing a nice windfall. But I think the forces of attrition are going to slowly grind this playthrough to a halt. Stumbling onto the Rat/Guinea Pig civil war a third time is probably not going to be very exciting. I am tantalizingly close to my win condition though (retrieving my father’s bones).

I just got to the part in Dead Rising 2 where the military gets digested by super zombies. Can’t say I didn’t see it coming but the change in pace certainly is nice. The zombies in this game are mostly harmless, so the additional challenge kind of shakes things up.

I still hate Chuck though.

I cannot hate a man who just wants his kid to be safe, no matter how bland he is

The Division: I want you to picture Destiny in your head. Now imagine if Destiny was a cover shooter. That is The Division. Except for the part where there’s actually a whole seamless game space instead of the game being torn up into chunks connected by the lobby orbit screen. Other than that, same kinds of pros and cons.

There’s always Off the Record that shuffles things around and has Frank West doing Frank West things. You even get to fight Chuck driven insane from losing his daughter and carries around a doll thinking it’s her. Even if it is non-canon I enjoy it alot.

This is true! I shouldn’t say I hate Chuck, I think he’s just fine and if I met him in person I’d be like “Hey Chuck. Nice work protecting your daughter from the forces of evil/capitalism.”

I hate the people who thought it would be a great idea to have a bland character with no interesting motivations, especially after Frank West.

Totally gonna play this afterwards. Might take a break and try my hand at Dark Souls again in-between though.
