Although I do think it has its problems and takes away agency too often for the first contact with a game that then is all about freedom, it feels different when playing it. Though I’m definitely disappointed what made for such an intriguing fake game trailer ends up being one of the weakest parts of the full game.
Out of curiosity I decided to check out my old DS Animal Crossing village from about 10 years ago. It was like entering the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, completely overgrown with weeds and my character even had a gas mask on. The animals all treated me like I had been on the run from the law. There was also a lot Salad Fingers faces and Laughing Man logos scattered around the place.
My house was also like a creepy haunted mansion full of cockroaches. Everything was gothic stone walls and floors and gyroids everywhere
Strangely, besides the gas mask my character was dressed almost the same as my New Leaf guy and the town tune was a slightly different version of my ‘Cabbages’ tune I have in my New Leaf town as well. Seems 10 years ago me was not that much different than current me.
I was surprised how low the framerate is on the DS version, maybe it was being choked by the weeds too
i’m playing an unarmed class in new vegas and jesus christ it’s miserable
Ive tried unarmed & melee builds in F3 and NV, theyre apparently really good and fun when you get over the investment hump but that hump is so unsatisfying while youre scaling it that i can never get more than an hour in. shotguns & sniper rifles are immediately enjoyable and only get moreso.
that they removed the ability to target individual body parts in melee (which you could do in F1&2) utterly mystifies me. i wanna punch a dude in the eyes so hard
Shotguns with beanbag ammo are key to the zero murder route in fnv
Uhhhh well there’s that power fist you find early on in a cave somewhere I think
I mean I think I was uppercutting heads off around level 20 with that thing
I have the DLC power fist, i’m still getting bodied vs cazadors, and getting Boone killed by legion ppl
maybe i just need to level up or something
i played too much Morrowind today. its a good game. im trying to actually engage the main quest for once, and im up to the part where you have to go to Vivec and seek out informants. this is like the only TES game where following the regular questline is actually fun and intriguing huh? like im genuinely interested in every new scrap of info i get about the world and the Tribunal and the Sixth House and the Nereverending Story.
i already know that the PC is gonna be the chosen one but i rly appreciate that the plot takes its time building up to the reveal & what it means for you instead of bluntly stating yr role & destiny an hour into the game.
Cazadors are pretty deadly, though
so i hear. the problem is more that, in the time it takes me to run up and beat the shit out of whoever it is, not only have i soaked up a lot of damage but so has my useless companion. trying to keep these dudes from dying
That’s one of my favorite bits of Morrowind, in how characters handle that so pragmatically. The attitude is less “The chosen one has come!”, and more “Alright, you’ve marked off enough boxes on The Nerevarine Checklist, so if you can actually do the job, then sure, you’re the Nerevarine”.
So I had sort of written off Teslagrad based on what I’d seen of the aesthetic (vaguely Steampunk with the whole “Tesla the Electric God” meme and a pinch of 19th century Russian pastiche slathered on top) but in actually playing it I have to say it’s better than I was expecting. The opening in particular is pretty lush, and while the game has sort of descended into a fairly standard Indie Metrovania mold it’s been a pretty good ride. The two bosses I’ve fought so far have been pretty inventive (and you die if you take one hit, so the first one in particular was surprisingly tough).
I’m not sure if I’m going to finish it or not, I’ll probably make that decision the next time I sit down and play. I’m glad I’ve played what I have though.
I’ve redoubled my efforts to blow thorough my backlog and to get ready for more games that I’ll buy and ignore in favor of my Overwatch addiction.
First up is Re:Hollow Fragment because I want to play Hollow Realization despite not actually liking Sword Art Online.

Hey, only 8 more floors worth of events to get through!save me
Oh what a huge misunderstanding this is!!!
It wouldn’t be terrible anime if there weren’t misunderstandings!
I managed to get through all of God of War Ghost of Sparta. Boy I sure do hate almost every element of this series but this one was harmless enough and had frequently nice visuals that still look great on a PSP or Vita. Almost every review at the time praised the story. The games have such little regard for their own world building. You find little fragments about Atlantis or the local god and Kratos is only there to cause genocide and untold destruction.
Then you end up in Sparta and can everyone is yay Kratos and he shrugs that off with as much distain as ever. If fail you at the prostitute minigame Kratos walks upset pouty and upset like his mom wouldnt buy him Nintendo Power but instead it was…give a congaline of prostitutes orgasms? And he kicks dirt if he fails. What a dumb series.
Oh man now I just remembered how upseting the first boss of GoW3 is. And gamers love cheering for that. I usually just talk about Kratos kills an entire city to help fulfill his REVENGE. Not the initimately upseting part.
In other news Machinarium is filled with puzzles I do not understand and even less how to solve.
God of War is awful but boy was it amazing how good that game looked for a handheld at the time
I played through that game with the sound off and for some reason I forgot subtitles were a thing so all of my understanding of the plot came through the visuals but it has the best QTE I’ve ever seen.
For some reason my Möbius Final Fantasy glitched and a lot of the textures disappeared, replaced with dark shades contrasted by pure white hair. it looks like an Eric Chahi game.
better empty out that magicite distiller bro
