Games You Played Today ##RELOAD

Been playing a lot of Shadow of Mordor and finding it depressing for some reason. Something about it makes me experience a great ennui - I’m questioning the purpose of my life and whether I waste too much time on meaningless pursuits. At the same time I imagine that I am having a great time stalking and killing Orcs, but I can’t actually remember anything about it being fun. It’s all a bit strange, haven’t had a game give me this sort of inexplicably depressing feeling in a while.

Also the Nemesis system is only just fine? I know people made a big deal about it when this game came out (late 2014) but it doesn’t seem to add anything but some flavor to the game. To be fair, there was one orc that killed me, and I tracked him down and killed him right back only to have him show up twice more after that, which was a pretty memorable and infuriating thing. I haven’t gotten to the part where you can mind-flay orcs into submission. Not sure that I want to given how much the game is making me feel worthless.

Shadow of Mordor is the kind of game that makes me think I actually don’t like games very much and should find another hobby.

here I played: The Zen & The Art of Transhumanism

its an indie game that u gotta goog yourself cuz im at work and cant hotlink things
its a game where you play a robot potterist whos making pottery pieces on a lathe spin thing that have technological upgrades for the body/psyche that affect various conditions

u can: make a vase that inhibits all sexual desires or gives super strength

you have an incoming flow of clients that are all asking you for upgrades to help fix their situation
Help Me! laments the first young woman I can’t seem to become popular on twitter no matter what I do!

You have a vase that would “Make someone much more influential in social media.” that you can make and put inside of her, but where the Zen in the title comes through is that the solution to these problems rarely comes in simply answering the prayers people give to you - the game indulges in a reading of zen philosophy that has your success coming from finding a way to help the people be more enlightened about their situation

if you simply just give them what they ask for, they come back for more. stronger. smarter, more sexual prowess or end up regretting what they asked for. you gotta think about what to give them and I think its fun to contemplate other peoples desires

Yeah like, there’s that. But there’s something else about it, like it makes me feel really accomplished and at the same time completely useless. Something about the moment-to-moment gameplay being so smooth combined with the overarching feeling that I’m just walking a pre-ordained path. The whole thing feels like it’s trying to convince me that I am doing something amazing, and I do feel like that, until I stop playing for like 5 second and then I feel like a total useless tool.

I dunno maybe I just don’t get along with modern game design.

Congratulations! You have unlocked lawnmower game enlightenment. You will either make your peace, or stop playing the games.

play just cause 3

The secret to SOM is to just play the arcade mode and call it good

if only these lazy open worlds fucks actually designed their world with no automap in mind, maybe, MAYBE it would actually be interesting.

I feel like Arkham Knight can be navigated very easily without the map

got that years ago

Shiren 5, the one just released. Trying to do the Primordial Chasm(原始に続く穴) 99f version.

78f: rabbit summons me and five of his friends to a close quarters party in a room. completely surrounded with few options, so i chomped down an invincibility grass. or i thought i did, because it was an enemy faking as an item and now i had seven enemies surrounding me. died immediately, used last revival grass, used up my last blank scroll to get the hell out of dodge. (and inevitably screwing me because that was my plan to deal with 90f+)

86f: completely out of resources to outpace the enemies. dead for good.

i endorse this roguelike

Honestly I feel like Open World games are just Not For Me anymore. I didn’t really dig Just Cause 2 that much, GTAV didn’t do anything at all for me, and Dark Souls isn’t an open world sooo

The last Open World ™ game I liked was Saint’s Row 2. Saint’s Row 4 was the last game I streamed on Twitch and it made me kind of hate games for a while. I’m finally spotting the pattern.
