i enjoyed grimrock 1 when it was new
any mention of eob and i get this in my head:
it looks like shadow hearts
the first couple of hours made a really strong impression and i was surprised i’d not really seen it talked about on here
i … turned automapping off when i played grimrock
Grimrock 1 is a Dungeon Master HD remake in all but name, even some of the maps are identical. Not as good as DM itself, they overcomplicated the design so it feels generic instead of austere and classic
this plays in the sewers? jesus. i played the amiga version, i don’t think it has music in the levels… this is like looking into an alternate dimension.
would my whole life be different if i played this version instead?
or would i just be sitting in the chair on the other side of the room?
Oh man, the voice acting (time linked)
And wha (also time linked)
The Amiga version and to a lesser extent the DOS version was what I was familiar with too so yeah this is wild.
Motohiro Kawashima Baby!
He’s got a new album out:
Master Detective Archives: Rain Code END
Fhudilsgfiu. This game was a real test of patience by the end. I do not recommend it. The final mystery and twists do the usual upending of assumptions but a lot of the twists can be guessed very early on. Your character and the main villain are a noticeably similar height and build and the main villain constantly wears a mask. Gee, I wonder how these two might be related? There is an extensive dialogue scene where this reveal is dragged out for so long and it just doesn’t make sense to write like this. Even a teen could at least speculate that this may be the case so why drag us through every single word? Just get to it.
When you’re an established mystery writer, it must be pretty difficult to come up with new ways to misdirect the audience. The ending sucks and the simplest way to put it is the main villain is a horrible criminal and so are you. It turns out every citizen in the city has been replaced with an immortal clone of themselves who must be fed human flesh (procured from criminals on death row) to survive. Despite essentially covering up crimes against humanity, the villain is entrusted with overseeing the solution of how all these people are reintroduced to the world. In a playable epilogue, you wander around the reformed city while people say: ‘Mr [villain] is so amazing, I sure am glad he covered up industrialised murder to feed us human flesh’ and ‘things are so much better now’.
I could go on about how it sucks but I’ll try and list the positives and then be done with it:

When I played Critters for Sale, I found that the weirdness and sound design made up for the game’s shortcomings. I think I looked up how to get one or two of the endings so I could see them all.
Couldn’t do that for the developer’s previous Rym 9000. I don’t think I’ve ever made it to the third level in that one.
since i’ve been running the nier raids in ffxiv a lot this week i thought i’d give automata an actual go and it’s a little more mechanically together than i was expecting
character design remains revolting but at least you can put a emil head on her
in automata’s case i think there’s a small payoff for your words and deeds but you can also mod it to play as any character model

rym 9000 rocks but it also crashes constantly. it has an achievement for getting a crash though so it’s impossible to say if it’s good or bad
I wasn’t thinking at all about this game and now I have to play it. Thanks a lot.
Wait, no, I take it back. I still won’t play it unless you tell me there’s a Drummer preset

That’s more of a Holden look
