Well I played that next chapterā€¦ and the chapter after itā€¦ and stopped at the start of the chapter after that one. Basically the other game I am playing is A Link Between Worlds and the 3d tires my eyes out after a bit and I have no real other next game up in queue to play so I ended up loading it back up and playing for an hour or so a couple of times.

I can sort of see the shape of the story now and it feels very familiar, although I should probably wait for the other shoe to drop before being sure about that. Kinda neat to have a game where virtually every voiced part so far is a woman of Indian descent.

The puzzle design has been a bit neater recently but I think it has a problem with forcing the player to sort of walk across the entire puzzle to locate every possible object in play. The puzzles are mostly rather large (and this is before the late game increase in size) and one can rarely get a sense of everything in play just standing in any one point, in fact sometimes there are stuff that are either rather hidden or actually hidden. As an example there was a puzzle recently where you had to magnetize and turn off gravity on a cube that you then use other fixed magnetized points to use to fling sorta above the puzzle you can see, if you were riding it as that happened you would end up at this upper level where youā€™d find other objects needed to put into play to solve the other half of said puzzle. Itā€™s not bad but one can see how things could easily fall off the tightrope of design it is currently walking.

Anyways I think Iā€™m just gonna keep playing until I either hit a point where it actually does fall off or I am close enough to the end to see it through.

I stopped when I bugged out and softlocked a puzzle and realized Iā€™d have to redo like 15 minutes of work to get back to the same point.

That is far the coolest SF6 character Iā€™ve seen. : )

RIP my friendā€™s Dreamcast, it served us well with some Rent-A-Hero (new english patch), some Seaman and some four-player Power Stone 2 before croaking

will return to Rent-A-Hero, surprisingly little action for the first hour but your first act of violence is knocking out your dad (who is dressed as Godzilla) at a party in your living room while a bunch of suburban weirdos watch, promising

all the burnt discs had the logos/icons for each game sharpied on 2000s style

controllers stopped working at the date/time screen so we couldnā€™t get past that, didnā€™t spend a lot of time troubleshooting but likely the controller port fuse?

Yeah, check that controller port fuse. Itā€™s not always the issue but if it is, itā€™s easily fixable.

Everybodyā€™s Golf (PS4) - hands down, best golf game iā€™ve ever encountered. an absolute joy to play

HUMANITY (PS5) - already starting to get wrecked by some of these puzzles. the unlockable stage in sequence 02 (ā€œfan outā€) has been stumping me so far. this game rules

Picked up Mk11 Ultimate since it was on sale for $10.

Got home from work yesterday and figured Iā€™d fuck around and give practice mode a shot to see if Iā€™d enjoy it at all or if I was gonna end up feeling like I wasted a bunch of money and want to return it.

10 hours later I was at the end of the first story mode with the boss whooping my utterly exhausted ass.

Buttobi Striker
(1994)

ā€œRedemption gameā€ - is there any more sinister sounding genre? Buttobi Striker is one of Konamiā€™s ā€œmedal gamesā€, which take tokens and pay out on the basis of skill and, to an unclear extent, the machineā€™s whim. What naked greed! These games last ten seconds and the chance of paying back is slim. Theyā€™re targeted squarely at kidsā€™ gambling receptors. I still have all of mine, so Konami cracks my wallet like an old copy of photoshop. Fortunately emulation renders all transactions imaginary. YAHO!

Anyway, you insert a coin for one shot at a soccer goal. The goalie is randomly chosen from a few options. I love the rude little rabbit with gloved hands on his ears. My best shot was a 15.

The well-animated characters have cute designs. Even the crowd members are drawn individually, with a mix of humans and animal people. I wonder if thereā€™s a way to remove the goal layer?

Buttobi means something like ā€œgo flyingā€, ā€œbig jumpā€ or ā€œblast offā€. Soaring away fast and hard. If I were localizing this game, Iā€™d call it Superfly Striker.

Ultra Street Fighter IV (PC)

The STEAM STORE menu item doesnā€™t actually go to the Steam storeā€“but it does re-check for DLC, so that sort of worksā€”after I found that there was ONE little costume pack leftā€“for Decapre, Hugo, etcā€“that isnā€™t included in the three larger DLC packs that have everything else.

x06

Iā€™m still a Steam noob and I was surprised by how poorly the Steam store handles the DLC listings. It doesnā€™t tell you which ones you already own until you look at them in your cart, it lists one (all-in-one 2011) that is already included in the purchase of the full Ultra game (but maybe not in the upgrade from Super or whatever? thatā€™s the only reason I can think it would be there; also, even the non-upgrade version identifies as Super in OBSā€™s window capture selection menu ^ _^), and it makes it real hard to tell that it mysteriously leaves this one small costume pack out.

x07

Also, as far as I could tell (and Iā€™m still not super-clear on this, I couldnā€™t find a list or something about it), I THINK the PS4 version includes two of those three big costume packs that the Steam version makes you buy separately for an additional $40ā€“at least, the only one available for separate purchase on PS4 is the Horror one; and the PS4 version was also $5 cheaper than the Steam version, not even counting unincluded DLC.

x03

But eh I convinced myself that the Steam version would have better input delay and load timesā€“even though I couldnā€™t actually find recent info on input delay in either version; and come to think of it, load times on PS5 might be at least as good?

x05

I have no idea. Maybe input delay would be worse on PS5 though for all I know, that seems to have been a trend in some other stuff. Well who knows, now Iā€™m just trying to justify my silly purchase. : P

x02

Anyway it runs good even on my ~4 yr old middling gaming laptopā€“300 fps in the BENCHMARK mode with everything except motion blur (didnā€™t try, but donā€™t usually like motion blur) cranked to max. : P

x01

Sheesh! Huzzah for old 3D games!

Also it doesnā€™t know about Windows versions past 8, apparently. ^ _^

x04

I bounced off the PS3 version back in 2009 after trying to go e-sports ^ D^, didnā€™t think much more about it after one last PS3 playthrough in 2016, but so far Iā€™m enjoying it here in 20xx. The AI is more fun to fight against than the AI in all the other SFs I just tried, and the variety of characters and stagesā€“and animated story intros and endings!ā€“is a lot of fun.

I have played this in a dying weird mall in Chiba. The mall would be torn down just about a year later.

Continuing the discussion from Games You Played Today VI (III in the west):

This game rules. Iā€™ve been playing it for the past week or so and its absolutely bizarre combination of mechanics (cobbled together over years of patches it seems) resists easy analysis. Most of these games are easy enough to understand in terms of efficiency, but this has so many fucken levers to pull that thereā€™s no simple answer. i continue to discover extremely powerful ways to multiply efficiency that i simply overlooked amongst all the chaos.

itā€™s fantastic, up there with Cookie Clicker imo. thanks for bringing this to my attention!!

If you donā€™t mind me asking, which area did this happen in if you recall (I donā€™t recall the names, I just go ā€œice, desert, beachā€ etc.". I saw a number of threads complaining about a later ice area when it comes to these, I just like to know when I might be heading into a disaster

I believe I am just past the midway point and Iā€™ve yet to hit any disastrous softlocks, although I have hit a few points in earlier puzzles where I screwed around and had to restart the puzzle due to it. Of course losing two minutes of progress due to that vs. 15 is a rather significant difference.

Great!! I started playing it again and got overwhelmed, again

Pro tip : to get the premium currency for free, you can play pachinko of course, but you can also drag the basketball in the raid menu across other menus to give it to the gameā€™s author to unlock a daily minigame

My favorite sequence is dying to a monster, meeting death, killing death before the timerā€™s up after getting enough +dmg bonuses, meeting deathā€™s crying child, and trying to comfort him with ore and fish

OH!! I was wondering about that!!

I didnā€™t even find the pachinko game until like two days ago lol
