Games You Played Today Part 007 Goldeneye

Keen to check out Firmament but have heard it’s been a rough launch. Particularly the VR stuff. I’m in no rush given Zelda has taken over my life but I do feel guilty I’m not getting to other stuff and just dumping my hours into openworld brain candy.

“Openworld brain candy” is a good way to put it. I thoroughly enjoyed the 10 hours I spent so far on the new Zelda but I’m sensing I might find it more fulfilling to redirect the next ~90 hours it would take to feel satiated on Zelda into a greater variety of other activities instead. Part of the problem is, for me, the dopamine level was so high it started spilling over into the time I wasn’t playing too.

Jury’s still out on whether I will actually follow through on this intention: as I write this I’m resisting an urge to just turn on the Switch and explore one more underworld zone.

it’s very easy to get stuck. also if you exit to map 2 (underhalls) it just sends you back to the myhouse map after you beat map 2. you don’t ever have to go to underhalls though unless you want the super shotgun. you do have to sorta do everything over if you do that though.

It’s not done downloading yet, but I bought Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate bundle since I’d been keen to play it for awhile and it was on sale for all of $10 for everything but a couple of skin packs I’m not particularly interested in.

I got stuck in the infinite staircase which leads back to the burned out house. I looked at a guide and missed, like, a whole daycare or something.

I don’t know about this one. Like it’s dangerously close to “I’m having too much fun which is the mark of sin, need to make sure I’m not enjoying myself too much to remain virtuous”

in the ghost in the shell psp game if you try to end the level without your tachikoma they say “Don’t leave me!! I’m government property!!” like “I can’t leave without my buddy superfly…”

im playing it with that mouse injector that got posted a while back and it’s actually pretty fun!

I wanna play myhouse but I’ve never played any Doom any farther than E1M1 so I’m worried I won’t “get” the “tropes”…

This seems like a great chance to Play DooM.

All the tropes of myhouse are more modern than the game it is built in.

got the platinum in death stranding: director’s cut. quite a marathon, but it never got tedious like most games do at the very end when you are trying to mop up the platinum. actually, there are still hundreds of missions left to mess around with and try and S-rank. i’m probably not done with the game yet, somehow, despite a 190+ hour playthru

at any rate, taking a break from this to play humanity, but not until i get some sleep lol

Alter Ego is another idle game but this one spouts anime/jrpg Philosophy 101 stuff at you. It’s fine I guess but as with all of these I seem to hit a wall when the Really Large Numbers start happening

in trying to search for alter ego, most of the results were for the 1986 game of the same name

Visited my parents’ place yesterday and got to finally play Forza Horizon 4 on my brother’s Xbox. My mom was watching me play and she laughed at how there was an ungodly amount of text being spewed onto the screen whenever I do anything as if I had the time to read it while trying to stay on the road. I had turned off about half the HUD

whatever that one is, it’s probably more interesting than what I just played

I’ve been playing this Jumping Flash! clone Forza Polpo and I like it. It can be pretty unforgiving–if you fall into the void it’s an immediate game over–but I think that’s okay because it adds a little tension when attempting a dangerous jump to get a few more of the (optional) collectibles. And the levels are fun and pretty short, so having to repeat one a few times isn’t really an issue.

It’s very much a 1990s-style “blue skies” game despite taking place on Earth after humanity has been wiped out. The music is good, too.

wow this game rules

the music is fantastic, typical for a mizuguchi game… tho my brother did walk by a few times and complained about how repetitive it was lol

I used to play this alter ego all the time as a kid. Fucked up game, choose your own adventure life sim that seems culturally from the 1950s

I’ve been disappointed by Sunless Skies and so I’ve decided to put it down. I made it as far as the second area in the game, after 10 hours learning the mechanical ropes, discovering a bunch of locations, fighting some battles successively, and getting some decent upgrades and savings. It was fun for a while, but the game is just immensely less interesting than Sunless Sea. This game feels more whimsical, and though it’s slightly horror themed it feels most like a colorful barf of bad speculative fiction fantasy writing crossed with Jules Verne, i.e. distasteful nerdery. It’s also just so much less mysterious and oppressive feeling. The sky monsters aren’t foreboding at all and the weird cultures up here aren’t really all that alien, things are just fantastical. Perhaps my biggest complaint is that the soundtrack is so unremarkable, especially compared to the fantastic set of songs from the original game. There’s just not much to hook me about Sunless Skies. It isn’t scary or mysterious and the progression seems easily gamed, since nothing is all that threatening in your way from gaining economic stability. Sad!
