Games You Played Today Part 007 Goldeneye

Demon Lord Reincarnation (PC)

Fortunately, even if you get wiped and your stats reset in the second half of the game, any scripted battles you won stay defeated–so I didn’t have to re-fight the first two, overpowered ('cause of how I’d been playing '; ) opposing teams in the back-to-back final three battles–which is good 'cause my attempted plan B strategy of going for status debuffs instead of straight damage didn’t seem super-reliable, in fact I was losing most battles just before hitting floor 1 until I took an hour to grind and fortunately my team ticked over to level III on most of their skills, which gave us enough of a boost to continue. And it took me about that long to realize I’d started the session with already maxed HP for my party leader! (So my plan C of mega-grinding to absurd HP levels wouldn’t have worked. ; )

spelunker hd is currently 80% off on psn and it’s very addictive.

Was previously convinced that Mario Kart DS was the last of the Karts to be interesting racing games but am now the kind of pervert who has a newfound respect for MK7 (and probably 8 now given how essentially similar they are)

I enjoyed the heck out of it, but it’s not really something that feels like you can talk about mostly. It’s not wacky lore like the first as much and it’s really open and big, not tight like people expect from a metrovania

i’m having a positive turn on it but it’s taken like 5 hours to get there. it’s weird how little this game works for me most of the time though. it should be right up my alley

Axiom Verge 2 was pretty rote until about the midway point IMO. I think both of the games have a legit weakness in terms of guiding you towards the ideal/intended path at all.

I started up Death’s Door as it’s a PS+ freebie this month and… I feel like I should like what it is doing more than I am so far? At least the first area does a good bit of folding in upon itself and mechanically it is solid enough but… I worry it may just be boring? Aesthetically at least it feels very blah beyond the boss fights.

This is the best game, one of the :genki: 501 Games Of All Times :genki:, this year I’m going to insist people play it with me at the Meetup!!

Turn 14, get a sword, all that jazz

Incredible sprite work, everything is so smooth it’s a little unreal. Too bad I died in the first area. this game is actually kind of hard! Kind of sucks to get your dad’s sword and shield and then immediately eat shit on the first mountain you climb because they won’t let you into military school

I’m glad someone at Sega was a George Clinton fan

I love Crusader of Centy so much. It goes some wild places and has some fun mechanics.

So much progress tho! All that empty space is a real killer. Where’d you pick that up? Sometimes I get a hankering to do puzzles, but most of em look like kinkade’s or something

Dysmantle (PS5) - ugh i got so addicted to this

it is a very calming, zone-out, smoke-a-joint kinda game. i underestimated the combat - it has killed me a lot, although generally out of impatience. the methodical nature of the game is just very soothing… i love it?? i don’t know why but this game hooks into my pleasure centers and forces my hand

i dunno if i actually recommend it other than i’m curious if anyone here would like it as much as i do lol

so at some point between when I last posted about it and now, Snowbreak went from “idiot brainless gambling shootman” to “actually it’s just straight up a character action game about shooting and also the devs like Nier”

I mean, the game is still an idiot phone game so it’s beholden to numbers and DPS racing but eventually they combine that with “you better dodge these attacks stupid”

it’s almost like a real video game

Check out book stores and board game shops for real good ones. I’ve had success at both. But, also, my favorite puzzle was a $2 thrift from a total no name thrift store. They’re cheap as fuck so the danger that there may be pieces missing is actually a little fun. But if you have all of them then you win!!!

yeah you can find great puzzles in thrift stores like this masterpiece i found once

We did it. And also we imprisoned it where we can control it, where it could no longer threaten us or anyone else ever again.

Playing World of Warcraft and doing “the trial of style”, a mode where you and 5 other players mog around a theme and then vote on the best outfit.

So far the most common theme is “Mismatched Mayhem”. Here is my mismatched outfit:

I am easily the most mismatched every time. And yet, sometimes I don’t get it.

One of those times, somebody who placed said “the orc got robbed” which made me laugh. Another, the three that placed (mostly matching! bullshit!!!) were all semi-nude blood elves, so I said “racism” in instance chat before leaving.

Trial of Style and Pet Battles are the best parts of World of Warcraft. I wish MMOs would fully embrace having deep dives into alternate-but-interrelated game systems. Combat gets so fucking boring.

I got Full Quiet after RT-55J posted its trailer, it’s great.

I like the Japanese design sensibilities with an emphatically American storyline

I had a lot of trouble adjusting to the unique mechanics - rope management, fuse management, hanging momentum jumps, obviously all the radio communication, etc. There’s a looming time pressure with monsters getting progressively tougher during the day until a Baron von Blubba-like instakill god comes at 2AM. No real guide available on the internet either… And the default button scheme is mediocre…

Difficulty’s very high but pistol ammo is infinite, the maps are clear enough for an NES game and safe houses do provide full healing / time reset for free. It’s possible to take a peek outside, solve a few puzzles, get a few energy bars then come back quickly and rest, for a bit. But the game is already throwing one way cliffs, resource eating passageways etc, so it’s about 50% survival horror stressful and 50% normal, which is fine by me (I can’t handle survival horror)

One of the main themes seems to be, uh, heavily borrowed from a popular JRPG series. Guess which game
