it is much more tolerable when it continues where it left off, yea
i fuckin love that boss theme
I am constantly shocked that in most of the forgetable PC Engine RPGs the music continues.
dynamic soundtracks should be in more rpgs with random encounters rlly, ff13-2 almost does this with the aggressive mix versions but iirc it just switches to a regular battle theme anyway
I was playing more last night and yeah, Iâm about halfway through (or maybe less) and already the puzzles feel really elaborate. Like in theory they could of course be spun off into nearly infinite complexity but itâs already reaching the point where itâs like, ok, I know I could figure this out if I spent x amount of time on it, but do I really want to.
Final Fantasy (NES)
I last (and probably first) played through this game in 2004, on PS1. Iâve never tried playing a Black Belt! I tried seeing if they could tough it out at the start with no armor and no weapon but uh no that didnât work. ^ _^
Gameâs tougher than I remember! Well, I probably donât remember much about difficulty, only that I enjoyed grinding giants or something for a long time, and my notes from the time say my playthrough was 40 hours. ; ) Anyway getting my BB killed on the way to the first castle, and then my Fighter killed one step away from backing out of the castle to pitch tent, those were kind of eye-openers! ^_ ^
And the first boss wasnât bad at all, but then two random(?) monsters after him were just crushing me! ; D
The princessâ dress changes from purple to red (palette thing probably) and I thought she was her mom. : P (I skipped the âhe kidnapped meâ part of her text I guess. : P)
Two women disappear after I talk to them in Coneria, the starting town, and it seems to be due to the FF1 Randomizerâthe âImproved Vanillaâ preset, anyway; I tried patching the standard FF1 ROM with just that, and they still disappeared.
Itâs amazing how clear and jewel-like everything looks in this game. It just shines.
OH. The title screen doesnât come up until later. Ohhhh. But I want it now! ^ _^

Itâs Snake, but youâre a catgirl conga line! What a clever idea. Gather friends who march behind you while bonus treasures and enemies appear on the field. Donât run into anything, or everyone will die. Seriously.
If you get a horn, you can play a tune.
A lot of EDF 4.1 on PC and Midnight Club LA on the Series. Sometimes I forget games can be fun!
I have started playing Psychonauts and it has tons of personality. The main character is super cool, and the remaining cast is great as well. They emanate that weirdness/ambiguity proper of Twin Peaks or the old LucasArts games.
I have only played less than a couple of hours, and I donât know how good the platforming will be, but even so, the game is already a pleasure to experience.
Furthermore, the graphics are great. The characters expressions, especially. I am emulating it on my Android smartphone, it runs great.
i played the first five minutes of raw danger, I hit the âyellâ button on accident and an NPC came up and was like âWTF are you doing?â and when I talked to another NPC they were like âwhy were you yellingâ. Thatâs pretty good for a game.
Did that NPC happen to be blond by any chance?
yeah lol
consider consulting cdromance if u would like to play a version of the game where every character is not blonde haired and blue eyed
Wait, this sounds interesting. Whatâs with the Aryan NPCs youâre both referring to? Were they additions to a western release or something?
Just about everyone with black hair in the Japanese version instead has blond hair in the international release. The rumor at the time was that they really only intended to make that change for one or two of the player-controlled characters. But the attribute was shared by the NPC models and it being a budget release they just left it that way.
Thatâs hilarious.
Ridge Racer (2011, PS Vita) - wow! very fun. somewhat underrated. handling is based on the PSP games, but the Vita has a much better analog solution than the PSPâs nub. runs great*, looks great, music bumpsâŚ
the servers appear to be down now, which means the game is just a shell of its former self, but iâm still enjoying it. it doesnât have much âcontentâ, but the racing is real good imo
touchscreen-only menus seem to be popular on vita. kinda annoying. i wonder if sony pushed that or if it was just a thing
*oh right, this game is only 30 FPS and you need to run the Vita overclocked to avoid framedrops in certain situations⌠i mean i guess they canât all be winners
Oh right, Firmament came out today. So fuck that Relicta shit lol
Even when the servers were up there wasnât much game there.
Shame, as you say the racing model was top notch
Final Fantasy (NES)
After the initial quest the game opens upâyou finally get the title screen!âand lets you wander around most of the worldâs largest continent.
It feels a little loosey-goosey but there isnât actually that much to access,
so it doesnât take too long to exploreâunless you miss something. ; )
Like a gosh darned castle right smack in the middle of a town on the map that I didnât blunder into; my eyeballs had interpreted its squat castle as ruins! = P
So that would be the next thing to do. Maybe theyâll tell me about the hole!
I reached lvl 8 which some FAQ had said was about where the Black Belt starts doing better without having weapons & armour equipped, so I stripped off and that does seem to have helped, he maybe isnât getting quite as beat up as he was before and heâs still doing good damage. : )
