Man how is it possible, sitting here in 2018, with a battery-depleted long-gone save with all characters at level 99, that I want to play Chrono Trigger again
Quite easily, sadly enoughā¦
Guys Iām gonna play Chrono Trigger on Steam ducks tomatoes amidst boos and hisses
I run through it in an emulator probably every three or four years just for kicks
still fun to see if you can beat millennial fair lavos on your first NG+ without having grinded at all (beyond stealing all the speed tabs on the way through zeal to max everyoneās speed and making sure marle got to life 2)
whatās the cap over there, i donāt remember
Rudie you keep watching the DMCV trailer and hated DMC1 so much it almost tore this forum apart. So why are you playing Devil May Cry 2.
Because I had to know.
And what did you find out?
It is very dull and boring.
And?
I miss DMC1ās attempt at a personality next to 2ās complete lack of one. Like the first cutscene is Dante going why did you summon me? And then the girl leaves without saying anything.
Then you chose to play as the girl?
Yeah and like nothing happened. I picked up a mcguffin and I donāt know why. I collected three more. Finally there was a cutscene where dante rescued me. I guess I fought three bosses that I defeated by standing out of range and shooting them. This also worked on the mooks.
Are you going to play more?
I donāt know probably I donāt fear death enough.
Yeah, DMC2 isā¦just flat.
I mean, it isnāt as bad as it was made out to be at the time, but that doesnāt mean it is good at all. It lacks any of the silly personality of 1, and the fun mechanics of 3. It starts to try for some fun stuff (I recall wallrunning and shooting was fun if also pointless from a damage or style points perspective), but it doesnāt get there.
I thought it was kind of disappointing that it seems like thereās this big huge map in deadfire but most of it is water. once you get off the tutorial island and go to the big city and talk to each of the factions they all give you a quest and those quests all lead to basically all there is to see out there. but then if the game had been much bigger I donāt know if I could of stood it anyway because the games in this engine all start to have unbearable loading times and delays clicking on menus the longer they go on
dmc1 is really bad
dmc 3 is really good though
i donāt think iāve played dmc 2
i definitely havenāt played dmc 4
in summary, play bujingai
dmc2 is the weakest of the bunch. the combat system is just straight up broken and not in a fun way. you can cheese through everything if you know how and itās not hard to find out. I was very disappointed with it when it finally came out. I remember having been very excited about it
oh well, we got 3, that made up for everything
loki, play DMC 4. It is pretty good.
I mean, donāt, but also do. Itās amazingly Gackt.
the big city is really big (and dense! I love love love the interconnected underground dungeons) though and the other islands couldnāt realistically have been much bigger without the game being totally overlong.
but yeah this was actually the game that drove me to buy a second SSD for my games at last
I have to shill for the first DMC still because it felt like nothing else action wise at the time; I still remember being in awe when I first got the fire gauntlets and fought my first mob with them
I do remember feeling like the structure of the game was really questionable between the swimming levels and the way points were awarded and such but I adored it. It also starts a lot better than 3 (whose first few levels, pretty much up to agni and rudra, and soundtrack are so bad that it took me years to get into it), though itās eventually obsoleted in almost every way
Iāll also give DMC1 some credit. Itās also just an interesting foundation that would become a new style of action game. I like how you can still feel the Resident Evil DNA in it and I still have feelings about its sound design. The screaming scissor ghosts always scared me in middle school. I think the first game has the strongest staging of all the games before it found itās place of cool and dumb.
I wish I could buy individual slices of game, like you can buy individual tracks from an album. All I want to do in any DMC game is fight that Fox News Talking Head boss.
Itās too bad that the game this was in was such garbage.
I will maintain DMC1 was fine at the time, but there is very little reason to return to it unless you want to see the starting point of better games to come later. Itās just not very fun at this point.
Now I donāt think it was garbage. The gameplay seemed fineā¦
dmc1 has some beautiful fixed camera cinematography. this is the very first shot from inside the castle right at the beginning and it has stuck with me for ages.
also dmc2 is cool idk i like the rooftops
Devil May Cry 2
Nah, it was a boring easy game wrapped in layers of grossness and misogyny that I am glad Capcom decided to pretend didnāt happen.
