Games You Played Today Classic Mini

God I love saints row 4 so much, I should replay it myself, between:

  • the probe droid you can recruit that goes down on you
  • the mission in which your vice president Keith David is corrupted by evil and Roddy Piper materializes in universe to wrestle him back to the powers of good
  • the antagonist who at one point taps into your car radio to sing operatically over Biz Markie

it’s like ready player one but good

4 is the one with the Nolan North voice that just talks about being Nolan North instead of reading the lines sometimes, isn’t it? Because that bit was good as well.

Yeah they gave all the different voice actors a lot of latitude to just change their lines in context

The French lady is amazing so I’ve never made a whole playthrough with Nolan but man

As much as games have improved since the po-facedness from last generation that it was responding to, we still haven’t gotten anything else remotely like it at that budget

Nolan is amazing because he uses his own name as a battle cry sometimes. It never fails to make me laugh because he has an ego as all hell about…being Nolan North.

I played through this entire playthrough as Nolan, even as a Lady Boss, and it’s pretty great.

Maybe I should switch to the French lady for the post-game…

One thing I noticed is that everyone uses They pronouns for the boss. Never picked up on that the first time through, but it’s a smart use of resources AND cool to hear.

I still miss the Russian lady from 3 :frowning:

God I’m gonna wind up playing 3 when it comes out on the Switch for like the half dozenth time, aren’t I.

I tried playing Gat Out of Hell and it was so bad I deleted it after about 10 minutes

Don’t know how it got so bad after 4

specifically after the 4 Christmas expansion, yeah. I think a lot of people must’ve left. It’s not a studio with a lot of big names so idk

I know the series director for 3 and 4 had left for Valve by then.

At least the flying is kinda fun. And it beats playing poor Agents of Mayhem, so.

Hey, I like Agents of Mayhem.

Not so much as a game, but still.

I dug out my copy of Scribblenauts yesterday as I had just remembered that it was a thing and while it is a cute little toy when it works, when it doesn’t work it might be among the most broken games I have ever come across.

So… yeah, pretty much how I remembered.

Also the PS4 version comes with the “Saints Save Christmas” DLC and you bet I’m gonna play that during the holidays.

did they ever fix the issues it inherited from the PS3 version?

The game runs a lot smoother. It isn’t perfect, but it is a noticable improvement from the PS3 version

Awwwwwwww

It definitely doesn’t look smeared with vaseline like the PS3 version, but I had it completely pull-the-plug hardlock my console multiple times.

I also like Agents of Mayhem, but not so much as a game. There’s a really fun idea with some really good characters going that just don’t have the writing or overall game loop to match.

So I bought the Steam port of Daifukkatsu last night because it was on sale, and it had the same screen tearing issue as the Deathsmiles and Mushihimesama PC ports, and no vsync option in the menu. But then I found out you can just go into their config files and add “Vsync=1” and boom, now it has vsync and no tearing and OH GOD I LOVE THESE GAMES but why isn’t this just a menu option?

Also man, DDPR Black Label has some great tunes.

Considering it was released six years ago today, I might boot up I Get This Call Every Day. Been a while since I subjected myself to it.

who do you have in the 4th slot there? I never recruited them, I wonder if they were added in a later patch

I don’t know why I’m inclined to be so much more mean in reviews on games from Itch. I’m about to drop this on the page for Islands: Non-Places:

You ever sit down to watch an experimental film in an art museum? And it’s kind of inscrutable and a little boring but you won’t get up and walk out early because you’ll be disappointed in yourself? Yeah, this is sort of like that. Some inspired visual and sound design but not much beyond that. The interactivity is perfunctory and makes the whole thing feel more tedious than it otherwise might.

Dropmix was $30 on Amazon, so when it arrives in the new year I can report on Harmonix’s last game.
