don’t play Xenosaga lol
this is why I’m glad all consoles nowadays have sleep modes
i was working at gamestop when this came out and i HAD to tell people ‘over 40 hours of cutscenes’ and the phrase has burned so badly into my head that i have a fucking visceral reaction whenever i see a xenogears box
like those kids who did too much dxm and their eyes bleed when they see it
who am i kidding like me
Trying Hypnospace Outlaw today. Nobody told me there would be so many feels in this game. I whipsawed from triumph when I finally guessed the psychic’s password to hesitation when I saw her message begging me not to shut her business down a second time since it’s her only way of paying rent
Yeah, you are definitely playing the bad guy for most of that game. It pulls that shtick off better than most!
I used to be a poser who played 20 minutes of Drift King Shutokou Battle 2 to get a spot on the snexploration podcast. Now I have 100%ed Shutokou Battle X and I am truly
oh shit. how was it? Have you played the ps2 entries? I’ve never played x but always been very curious about how the jump to the next generation treated it
okay, what is this dumb Steam Spring Cleaning thing they got going on
Steam, are you seriously telling ME to play Cactu-
wait
that logo…
I haven’t yet…every game store near me has the whole ps2 series complete in box for like 4 dollars each so there’s no excuse!
X has tons of bloom lighting and other dumb filters…strong early Xbox 360 aesthetic…I love it.
Can comfirm it’s really good! There’s a lot more variation in time of day/location than I remember from the ps2 games. Also, there are people who will only race you under very specific conditions.
I met a girl who only races people who drive cars with the spoiler removed. I had already removed mine so we were good to go!
I also seem to remember really good cockpit detail? I bought some crazy a-pillar gauges that not only showed up in the cockpit view but were functional!
It’s really odd how the game was marketed in the US as some kind of Fast and Furious import tuner thing. That actually made me miss it at the time and not realize it was just next gen Tokyo Extreme Racer!

Been playing some things:
Alwa’s Awakening: I’m nearing the halfway point in this game and am pretty well satisfied with it! It’s got a great Zelda II-ish feel and I’ve been looking for games that build on that game’s ideas. Level design is pretty smart.
Final Fantasy IX: This is at least my third attempt to really get into FF9 and the first time I wasn’t distracted by something else/stopped at the stage combat minigame because I couldn’t get a prefect score. The story feels needlessly convoluted and clever for something that in its opening acts still feels pretty small scale and simple. But, damn, this game is pretty. (Only like 2 hours into this)
Sekiro: I may never beat Genichiro, but I will keep trying.
Only time I ever played FF9 was a weekend, no sleep speed run with a couple of friends, upon release. I’ve never felt compelled to play it again.
I’m playing the retranslation of Final Fantasy VII
If you’ve ever wanted to like Final Fantasy VII but have had problems doing so, it might be worth playing this retranslation. It is very well done (though I have noticed a few typos and glitches here and there). The game’s plot is much easier to follow and characterization is more consistent/nuanced. Feels a lot easier to get into it than I remember.
Also started playing Wolfenstein: The New Colossus. I really like this series of games. They fill the Half-Life shaped hole in my heart rather well. The writing is surprisingly good too!
the FF7 retrans from 2015 or…?
the one titled “beacause”
I was always interested in it but then I learned that someone ported it to the psx version, which is still my preferred way of playing the game
Did another man-hit in Hitman. This game is a comedy.
So it’s the one in, uh. Somewhere. With the bad virus for armchair assassins
I started the mission by accidentally detonating a mine near the entrance to the mansion. Oops! But nobody saw me do it so it actually worked in my favor.
Anyway, I am following a pattern of “first target is perfectly executed, second target is a comedy of errors.” I managed to poison the first target and kick him off a cliff while he was puking, nobody noticed and it looked like an accident. Awesome.
I couldn’t get any inroads on the second target, though. She was surrounded by people constantly and I couldn’t get any leads.
But I accidentally ended up in a room with just her and her bodyguard and neither knew I was there. So i just chucked a toy tank at the bodyguard’s head, then conked her on the head with a can of expired spaghetti sauce and broke her neck.
But, oh no! Someone came in at the wrong second and I ended up throwing scissors at him. Ooops!! He died
Anyway I found another disguise so they would stop hunting me (by throwing more cans of expired spaghetti sauce at anyone who looked at me funny), then proceeded to completely fuck up on the last target, alerting absolutely everyone to my presence. I ended up running up like 4 flights of stairs and out onto the street wearing a hazmat suit while everyone shot at me.
It was glorious.
everyones still being really mean to luigi in dream team even though luigi is absolutely pulling his weight and then some!!!
mario cant reach a button?
LUIGI WILL CLONE HIMSELF A THOUSAND TIMES, ALLOW MARIO TO CLIMB UPON HIS THOUSAND BACKS AND PRECARIOUSLY BALANCE A THOUSAND TOES AT THE EDGE OF A CLIFF A THOUSAND FEET OFF THE GROUND SO MARIO CAN REACH THAT BUTTON
but some asshole in the next scene will look at luigi and call him ‘soft’ even though hes taller and leaner than his brother!!!
i thought it was gonna let up after luigi got his dream powers but its worse
luigi needs someone to appreciate him
I loved the first superstar saga so much and i was so disappointed when i got the time travel sequel and it was just complete shit. Oh, we made a great new setting outside of the mushroom kingdom? That’s BORING. Let’s set this one in a new place, like the mushroom kingdom. For bad guys we’ll use… mushrooms. Go fuck yourself
I was similarly disappointed by Partners in Time. Superstar Saga is so damn good and the sequel just kind of strips the formula of anything interesting
