if it wasn’t 3:30 in the morning and I had some liquor at the ready, I would try (and fail) to drunkenly explain why Trio the Punch has more cultural cachet in a post-emulation and information-saturated age because people will always be gawking at it
Data East are the only ones who should have been allowed to take a crack at the parody game
Data East deserves respect for making Karnov their main dude.
I maintain High Seas Havoc is one of the best mascot platformers on genesis.
i think crackdown 1 is better than crackdown 3! the added quintuple jump (triple jump plus doublr air dash) is cowardice.
There’s a certain economy to the jumps in the first game, even when you’re maxed out, where you’re very good but still need some precision and mindfulness.
Saints Row IV kinda tried it and went overboard by letting you glide. Agents of Mayhem, oddly enough, got it right with a double jump and dash.
I mean it still looks cool in Crackdown 3, but the little rocket thrusters let you overcorrect rather than have to commit. I dunno.
One more game that playing it makes me feel like an asshole: Layers of Fear. Within minutes I was being a cynical asshole towards it and that didn’t change for two hours.
So say something nice: the effects and scripting are great. The effects are world-class and I had to actively think of how bonkers what was happening was to be impressed by it. But wow am I impressed with what it did.
But not like the content of what it did. I was being a reall asshole to a game I got for free.
my housemate got the new mario party for his bday.
it’s still full of bullshit but i won
i also won tetris 99 again today.
a busy sunday
I downloaded some PSOne games for some reason yesterday
Cyber Sled - fuck yeah this game owns and has hot-ass music and I just wish it ran a little smoother and my tanksled turned a little faster
Pandemonium - this is awful and seems more enamored with it doing weird camera shit than actually making a playable platformer sometimes and it shows just how much of a miracle Klonoa was in comparison
Punky Skunk - this is an okay platformer that spends 80% of the game coasting by on “yeah, it’s a video game” tier of level design then busts out some cool levels at the end and then you get a jetpack with limited fuel and the game is actually fun and interesting then because it’s like the 7 people making it woke up and went “oh right, difficulty curve”
also, you fart skunk spray at enemies. that’s good.
Tonight we played team Super Mario Party with our friend’s seven year old daughter. As ever, it was a game of skill.
Dramatically underappreciated, at least.
the Official in My Mind Goddamn Top B-tier Genesis/MD Platformer List and Also Fuck You if You Disagree:
- Marvel Land
- El Viento
- McDonald’s TreasureLand Adventure
- Ristar (YEAH I SAID IT, WHAT OF IT)

- High Seas Havoc if I’m sober, Awesome Possum if I’m drunk
- Magical Taruruto-kun (this game is legit good, check it out)
- Batman
- Taz-Mania
- Pink Goes to Hollywood (not the same as the SNES version, actually okay)
HONORABLE MENTIONS: the CD version of Hook, Ernest Evans, Toki
WHILE I’M FIRING SHOTS: Quackshot is better than both Illusion games, don’t @ me

It’s tru
Oughta have Tinhead on there tho
AMIGA-ASS GARBAGE
That’s what makes it good
Where the hell’s Flink
probably hanging out with the other games with actual production value and care poured into them
there are better Amiga-ass garbage games on the system though, like Zool
is someone going to accuse me of shutting out Ghostbusters next
Ghostbusters is on the next tier up too, before anyone jumps me
Rocket knight 2.
saying you want to play Sparkster when Rocket Knight Adventures is right there is like asking for Steakums while staring at a cut of prime rib
I’m going to need more ammo, I’m firing off too many shots
