Those look like my people. Even Gunvalkyrie was better than Bullet Witch.
Cavia should have just made a full Ghost in the Shell 2.

I fooking adored Gunvalkyrie and the Otogi games. Never had a 360, so I never got the chance to Bullet Witch, but maybe I should.
seasonal ghostie game time i’m back on the yomawari with the third game, and this time they let you style your soon to be traumatized child
oh, she will suffer
only 5 minutes in the shitty brats are already feeding us worm.
after this we get an implied suicide except possibly not? but considering the previous two games, we should probably take this at face value and assume we are on a journey to accept this
after the opening, it seems like mostly the same old as usual, except now there’s a mechanic where you can hold your eyes closed by holding a pair of buttons. many ghosts can’t see you if you can’t see them. i put this on the triggers because it feels like i should give a possible accidental slip the benefit. i still really love how these games look, pitch black darkness with very saturated colors in the light. delightful miniature scenery with tightly packed detail.
BULLET WITCH IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER MADE.
Six Stages
Gigantic Environments
Encourages you to start on easy and work up to hard
Throw Tornados
Cartwheel past explosives
Video Game Bullshit
Alisya is cool
That Airplane Boss
remember when veronica got in trouble on steam for buying too many copies of bullet witch for people on sb
Bullet Witch is ok.
getting some mixed messages here. ive never played a strategy game before where ive almost lost because i was doing too good and making the enemy surrender before we could take enough ground
also I guess I shouldn’t be surprised but close combat runs like shit when you play it multiplayer, like 15 second pauses sometimes while you’re playing with no indication that it isnt crashing until the little guys start moving again. please continue giving us 80 dollars for these games
i’ve always liked the cavia games they feel like just the right balance between grungy and polished… i’ve long been a fan of beat 'em up / dress up sim beatdown fists of vengeance on the ps2. i’m incredibly fond of that vibe in particular, sort of the irem / cavia / sandlot / maybe older fromsoft games vibe is how i think of it, a lot of these games feel like they’re doing things that more polished games wouldn’t for the difficulty in implementing them well, game balance, etc.
in bullet witch you gain the ability to cast a kill everything that moves cinematic meteor spell but you’re almost as liable to kill yourself as anything else because it launches physics object building shrapnel everywhere and getting tapped by moving objects is a death sentence lol… it’s completely awesome. it came out before basically i think the xbox 360 third person shooter genre was codified and i feel like it has some kind of unique allure to it still
also i love what a high concept a “bullet witch” is… a fusion of both american (bullet) and japanese (witch) sensibilities
i need to play left alive for the ps4 that looks like a true expression of this vibe as well
Steam reminded me that I had these games on my wishlist, and I still can’t tell what kind of game they are. Are these like Shiren but with puzzles instead of equipment?
just got this bit
this game is a strange marvel, honestly. it is so overstuffed and so dry in some respects (I just unlocked class changes for my whole team and like 2/6 of the intermediate classes offer their own entirely new series of complicated single-target buffs that I have to learn now instead of anything more interesting) but there is a hell of a lot of fun writing in there
if anything I feel trapped into enjoying this, I’m like 15 hours in and it’s only really opening up now…
you’d think I’d be tired of posting variations on “I really can’t recommend rogue trader but it is tailor made for me to overlook its flaws” by now but I honestly think I’m only like 25% of the way in
I also played through the Jae romance. She’s a genuinely fun character and commanders were way OP in my experience. I don’t know if that is an invented accent or what but it is very consistent, and good. I don’t see Owl Cat getting enough credit for the moment to moment writing in this and the Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous game. I’m not sure if the quality extends further back in their catalog but they surely have some cheeky and talented people working on their characters. The games are so rules crunchy and big it kind of gets lost in the mix, I think.
A warning might have been patched in but there wasn’t one when I played. I would have preferred one but I’m mostly immune to spoilage:
There is a prison chapter coming where they take your shit and people away. You can lose people if you don’t save them. I got lucky and did not lose anybody but I did miss a new guy, who just died instead of joining my team. Also, when I got all my stuff back I quit the game for a few days because I didn’t want to re-sort equipment. There may have been a patch for that.
I’m gonna force myself to play through new Dragon Age for bad reasons but I think when I get some time off in December I have another play-through of this one in me since I haven’t played the DLC yet.
more like a typical adventurish horror game, without combat or (meaningful) resource management. the perspective makes it look a bit cute and silly, but is contrasted with rather grim events.
i think one way to look at it is that it’s not far off from being an rpg maker horror game
I finished Fallout 3. It was not compelling
Playing some Devil May Cry 1, and it feels more archaic than 3 (as expected). Not sure if I will continue with it.
I bet I would like DMC1 even more now. Grown fond of PS2 games that have Cool Thing and The Worst Thing You’ve Ever Done In A Video Game right next to each other. Devil May Cry is that for 10 hours straight.
That church Boss Battle Room so sadistic.
Pretty good endorsement to continue
thought this was about the ranma revival for a sec
Few things I like about Yggdra Union:
Milanor starts the game very strong, with great stats + a passive bonus in « wasteland » terrain, which the earlygame maps are filled with.
His best stat is ATK power, which means more damage, which then means more xp (xp is proportional to damage done)
The MVP on a map is whoever has done the most damage, and they get a permanent stat bonus. If you play normally, Milanor will get about 90% of these bonuses. They REALLY add up.
Milador naturally becomes the best character by a mile and this is a game that rewards being « good enough » You get into little autobattle skirmishes with the enemy, and whoever loses the skirmish is the only one to lose « real » HP. When characters like Milanor become strong enough to be able to ignore weapon triangle, which happens very quickly, they pretty much nearly stop taking damage entirely, unless they get in a very uncomfortable position.
The protagonist Yggdra in comparison has to play by the rules; as a sword user, she’ll lose against spear users, lose half the time against fellow sword users, etc.
Milanor’s a thief; while he’s the best fighter, he also steals items. Items are extremely important as they’re finite and the only way to recover morale HP. It’s just natural to just use Milanor constantly to nab items, even when the weapon triangle is not in his favor. Naturally, this means more exposure, more MVP bonuses etc.
Steal itself, as a card, gets used all the time and becomes stronger and stronger (like xp, it rises in power proportional to damage done)
Milanor reaches near max stats roughly one third through the game. It’s ridiculous. Then it’s all downhill. He becomes a huge parasite.
You want the other characters to become strong because while Milanor’s good, it’s clear he can’t just solo the rest of the game. The team needs some variety. But making the others catch up is difficult. Milanor is hogging all the xp and wasting all the MVP bonuses. You try to level other characters up but battles suddenly take 3x more time, and everybody takes a ton more damage, and the game is now a chore, and you don’t get the special bonuses for finishing maps quickly anymore.
You also still need to use Milanor to steal items, and he does so much damage he steals all the xp from everybody, and might still get the MVP bonuses anyway.
Even then it’s impossible to not love Milanor and his little trap IMO
