I’m still thinking about the struggling artist and the future dad who doesn’t want to be a dad
Oh shit Haven! That was on my radar and then not. I love Furi. One of the best of the generation that one.
I agree! Haven is almost the polar opposite of that game though
Yeah I wanted to complete the old road first but at 38 floors it seems like even more trouble than Heavenly Lake. I beat Onigiri Hollow at least.
Apparently Kojirouta is more likely to stick around if you have a female in your party. I can get as far as the tower of fate proper before he inevitably gets knocked out trying to fight night monsters
man i’ve only ever played a handful of casual hours of shiren over the years but every time i read a post from someone deeper in it sounds like the best game ever made
In the last few weeks I’ve beaten every single mode of Kero Blaster at least one time. I almost never do this kind of thing. I would say I’ve enjoyed Kero Blaster as much as Mario Odyssey. It is in my top ten of all games ever? If you haven’t played this, I would heartily recommend it.
Don’t play it on a touch screen though. Get the Switch version.
Shiren is so good I made a game of my own based on it.
finished celceta, unnecessary crafting system, decent story, weightless combat
Crafting systems are so baffling. Most of the time they are just transparent busy work translating otherwise useless doodads into useful ones with almost no thought required whatsoever.
The soundtrack is 11/10
i bought the new one from the same perspective and it’s quickly become one of those games where i’ll check my phone and realise i’ve been playing for several hours
Real Bout 2 is honestly one of the best fighting games ever? Got to bash it out with @aislesgrises
Just looks, sounds, and feels amazing. The controls are tight and responsive. Combos are simple and easy to perform, and worth doing. Air guarding, sidestepping, and background combat create tension and add depth (literally) to the mindgames.
The roster has a ton of variety and every character is either very weird or very cool or both in the case of DUCK KING.
i think we both lost our minds when we saw this, just the absolute best
do tell
in a fit of shiren froth i picked up pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of darkness, which is of the gen that people who talk about these games (Extremely excitable youtubers w pokemon fanchar avatars) seem to swoon over the most. its no shiren - its more about snaking your team around and managing move uses than item use - but its surprisingly charming to play interspersed w shiren postgame. i thought i was totally burnt on pokemon, could never play another one, but give them scarves and let them tell me about their hopes dreams and fears and i guess i can deal with it. the art’s p cute too, and the personality quiz set-up is gr8
thank you for recommending crosscode, I’m extremely charmed by it – somehow it manages to combine the RPGMaker sprites and shonen dialog portraits and physics dungeons into way more than the sum of their parts, which I’d given up on most indie games that look like this doing years ago
The Death of the Corpse Wizard
Is a turn based arcade arena roguelike based on the gameplay of late Shiren. the iOS version isn’t available anymore but the other versions should still work.
Should I play Hyper Light Drifter? To this day, I still don’t understand how good it really is
it’s good, very SelectButton: wordless, spare but implying lushness, tight combat focus. Doesn’t inspire much discussion because it speaks all it needs to for itself.
yes
