Games You Played Today: Actress Again: Current Code (Part 1)

What’s hooking you in out of curiosity?

ffiv is the one where you have to engage with random battles if not outright grind at some point just because big bang will one shot you otherwise. there’s not a whole lot of optimisation you can do besides like, a couple of characters you might as well always berserk and remembering to use slow in every boss fight (can stack a few times in pre-ds versions)

my last playthrough a few years back i nicked this strat https://youtu.be/b-f7n06Vu2Q?t=21467 so rosa gets a ton of levels by herself and kain rejoins i believe at the same level as your highest other character so with reflect and a lot of elixirs they can rinse the final boss on their own, seems the quickest way to approach the endgame in a normal playthrough

not a huge fan of the ds version personally! you also have to be careful how you use those unique items that give new abilities

I liked what I played of Legends of Runeterra; it feels like a more thoughtfully designed Hearthstone. For one, you can actually have minions with effects stick to the board because the opponent doesn’t get to choose who to attack. Additionally, you can actually react to what your opponent does because of how turns/rounds are structured. It bridges some of the gap between the too simplistic Hearthstone and the too complicated/time consuming MtG. I just wasn’t into the whole grind for cards, which is what keeps me away from most CCGs.

As far as card game-adjacent things, I really like the autochess mode in Hearthstone called “Battlegrounds” and I’ve been playing that a lot recently. If you understand Hearthstone it is much easier to get into than other Autochesses I think. And it’s easier to get a grasp on positioning and unit value because everything is more quantized and clear than a “normal” autochess which is just a mess of numbers and AI you can’t really evaluate easily.

yeah i liked the ds version well enough but if you want to futz around with augments, use a guide. they’re really poorly integrated, some of them are pretty broken too

Similar to Gate88s response, it is a nice middle ground. Since decks are 40 cards, I am not too intimidated to make my own deck in the future. I like playing MTGA with people I know who have similar skill levels but outside of that I just get wrecked all the time and intimidated by better players. I have no idea how to make a good deck in MTGA. I also appreciate that runeterra gives me XP even if I fail/lose.

The free to play monetization doesn’t seem too bad so far. They have given me a lot of cards already to keep me with it. The game has only been out for a short while so it doesn’t seem too overwhelming yet.

played this combat-heavy civ clone themed after warhammer 40k

i was enjoying it for a while, tutorial was okay and the basic city-building/army/combat mechanics were well-executed enough.

however, like many of these games now, this one has a quest system. play a standard game, get some story quests to guide you and have some fun encounters.

the fifth story quest for orkz dropped a late-game imperial guard army directly on top of my capital city. we’re talking 20-30 units, including 7 artillery units.

absolute dogshit. uninstalled immediately. i’d think “don’t suddenly spawn more units than every faction in the game has combined on top of the player’s only city” would seem obvious, but i’m just somebody who has played these kinds of games for 20 years

this was joe rogan’s favorite game when he thought it was called nootropia.

i’m not home at the moment, so i’ve been playing roms on my laptop. spent today playing live a live. might even finally finish that game for once!

The Wonderful 101: Remastered (PS4) - Deleted my save for the second time yesterday and am currently deliberating on whether to make an ill-advised third attempt or set the spandex aside for awhile and try DQXI again.

i’m hitting that point in FFIV (DS) where i always give up - the part right after getting Edge and everything kind of opens up. it’s funny how this is always the part in every Final Fantasy game that just knocks the wind out of my sails.

Leviathan kicked my ass and i don’t think i have any chance to defeat him right now, so i should probably leave that area and go back to the main quest and get stronger.

you’re making me want to play it a bit

is the steam version of the ds remake, like, fucked up in any weird ways, or is it pretty straightforward?

idk about the Steam version - i think Toups had some issues with it? i.e. i think the framerate issues from the DS version are still in it?

Oh damn, is this a known issue? Kind of want to get it just to support Platinum. I already beat it on WiiU but felt mission length was a bit long.

Oh damn, is this a known issue?

Not that I’m aware of- I deleted the saves myself.

Beat the PS3 Aquanaut’s Holiday game. It’s focused on being an exploratory walking (well, submersible-ing) simulator tied together with cheesy mystery story and a frequent minigame of Simon Says with singing fish that give you huge smiles and Meme Juice (not kidding) when you successfully repeat their song back to them. Solid Artdinky time if you are down with the dink. The movement of the sub feels like piloting a giant sphere of cookie dough, though, and not in a good way.
