Games You Played Today: Actress Again: Current Code (Part 1)

It turns out the crash really did a number on things because while my character was rolled back to just after The Tower, the world state was kept, sort of. The world thinks I’m in New Game+ with greater stats on remaining enemies, except the dungeon is still blackened and eroded as it was from my ascent. My character no longer has the goal item either… but neither does the world have a copy any more. True witchcraft!

wanted to really get into some games this weekend, but instead i just entered total loaf mode and watched movies.

however, i did spend some time playing the Puzzle Mode of a game called Petal Crash, in an attempt to actually get good at the game

definitely recommend checking it out if you’re into GBC aesthetics and puzzle games that remind you of SNK/Taito stuff

Started Langrisser 2 on Sega Genesis (+ flash cart) last night and its a little gem.
Fairly Steamlined unit combat. The save system gives you a nice little battle resume save that you can use as a mid-battle restart. It really takes its time introducing new elements such that I’m never overwhelmed or confused. I haven’t hard lost yet but Ive lost unit commanders to bad placement decisions. The interesting thing with this game is the unit commander system where your commander chracters each have their own troops that you can either command individually or leave to clump around their commander. A turn where you are just moving over terrain might be done is 4 actions. If a commander is killed (friend or foe) their units leave battle incentivizing decapitation attacks. The little battle animations at first seemed arbitrary but on closer inspection no… every hit is a collision and sometimes they happen unexpectedly.

The art is good and effective.

The sound track is compelling and fun especially with a good sub.

i’ve been running my genesis 2 (va0, so not a good model) into a roland kc-400 amp and i just can’t overstate how much more impact it has. snes games sound cool this way, but genesis stuff just thrashes and comes alive. i can’t wait to try this with the MiSTer’s cleaner audio

Wish DBFZ would follow through on their promise to ban rage quitters because I hate being drawn back to this time and time again only to rage quit when I take a beating

Achievement pop ups sure do cheapen an experience, especially when you’re playing a (Nintendo) console that does not even have an achievement or trophy system

I dont give a fuck about your sassy one liner pertaining to whatever i just killed in resident evil, you’re ruining the atmosphere, you’re REMINDING ME THAT IM PLAYING A VIDEOGAME, you are unsuspening my disbelief

i think if you’re playing resident evil and forgetting you’re playing a game then you’re playing resident evil wrong

I just took a slash to the artery after not saving for the last hour so I think I may forget about playing this particular resident evil altogether

sorry, I meant to insinuate that I also hate achievements but I took the post literally because RE is like a cornerstone capital G Game to me

Got back into RE1GC after not playing it for a month, and got so immersed that I didn’t have to constantly check the map to keep my bearings

This switch has been great for catching up on the various games i missed out on over the last 20plus years. This Friday: DKC3

reaffirming my suspicion that Doom is best played on I’m Too Young To Die!

I beat Hollow Knight, but I assume I got the Bad End.

Taking too much willpower not to look up the requirements for the Good End (which I assume I have half done by this point).

something something death to sotn for popularizing this nonsense

should we have a big thread for games best played on the easiest difficulty

FE Fates, I married off my feMC to Gunter. My skin was crawling lol

Played about halfway through Finding Teddy and realized I was feeling the opposite of inspired? Un-compelled. Actively discouraged.

I’d also started playing Always Sometimes Monsters a while ago and tried to dip back into it and the writing was just so ham-fisted I couldn’t take it. I couldn’t even remember any of what I’d played previously anyway.

Scratch 'em off the list!

Finished Yakuza: Like A Dragon and will probably dump some thoughts in the Gang thread. I liked it a lot but is in need of tweaking.

Started up Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm and Fitness. The full game is better than the demo since it actually encourages you to stretch before exercise. Nothing to add about the basic premise other than unlocking so much stuff is fun. There’s quite a lot to customise and even though they present 9 trainers to choose from you can essentially character create each of them. Dye their hair and change their skin pigmentation as much as you want, they’re cool with it; they almost relish being dressed up by you.

The licensed music is very much a McKaraoke deal and there’s not a lot that stands out here. Just unlocked ‘Girls just want to have fun’ which gave me the fleeting thrill of owning music rights.

Here’s Evan, he’s probably my favourite trainer because he says ‘Ready?’ in a somewhat hypnotic way. I still suspect all the voicework is synthesised to fit better with the rhythm since the speed can be changed and everyone sounds unnaturally intense but in a fun way.

The degree to which you can customise the routine already beats out Ring Fit (don’t know why you could never just start a stretch session on command). I am concerned that the exercise itself will become a lot more routine than Ring Fit since it’s just a very simple 2-input rhythm game at its core. Looking forward to bouncing between the two and seeing if I can avoid ‘real’ exercise for as long as I can while still maintaining some sort of improvement.
