elliot quest!!!
Odallus is better than Castlevania.
My mind is open to being changed, I donāt hold the old Castlevania games as sacred or anything. Thereās a good chance I could go back and play one of those games and bounce right off. So Iād like to hear more if youāre willing to elaborate.
You get armor halfway through the game that changes your sprite and you are a daddy that has to kill his evil son at the end. There is a mine cart level. Canāt argue with math.
Iām almost 30 hours into my FFXII replay and Iām surprised at just how bland it is.
The more subdued, bland approach is something I really loved about XII.
For quarantine Iāve been playing FF10, 12, 13 and 15. I like all of them very much so far. I had been playing DQ 7 and 11 before this, and I find I prefer the Cirque de Soleil look of the FF games to the kind of bland environments + great Toriyama monsters of DQ.
As far as aesthetics go, my judgement is: For FF12 and 13, it feels like they spent a billion dollars on beautiful graphics and 1 dollar on footstep sound effects
this is an immaculately crafted post
I think this is why I could never get myself interested in giving dragon quest a shot. if Iām going to put up with jrpg mechanics Iād prefer to be wandering around Magitek Havana while I do it not Medieval Village.
played jeopardy last night with other sbutts
you can probably figure out which two categories were the easiest to win
i actually canāt no
while i would say amano > toriyama when it comes down to it (nomuraās moreā¦ mixed), thereās just something so comfy about dq including its very basic aesthetic āblandnessā
well sure, but the toriyama gets to just fully exist in dragon quest, whereas final fantasy started out a hundred miles from actually realizing any amano and theyāve hardly gotten an inch closer since
(āsureā is re: amano/toriyama, i donāt think dragon quest is bland at all)
well. i mean, i think thereās as much amano present in ff6 as there is toriyama in any early dq, though naturally the simpler styles of toriyama and earlier nomura were more easily translated to 16-bit graphics and obviously the style and aesthetic shifted with ff7. and hasnāt really returned to amano since, aside from some things in ff14. yeah?
and iām with you, i donāt see dq as bland either.
idk about super metroid or sotn, but elliot quest does an excellent job recapturing the feel of zelda II without being obnoxiously derivative!
itās also like, objectively better than zelda II in every way!
everyone should play it!
anyway parasite eve II is also quite excellent so far. I remember playing it as a teen and quitting after I got to the shower scene the first big boss fight outside the motel. itās certainly much more difficult than the original, but still much easier than the trad survival horror games it copies. but I also think itās much more interesting design wise than any of the PSx resident evils, or parasite eve itself! a true hybrid RPG/survival horror game with great atmosphere, sound design, and an interesting/unobtrusive character building system.
I sure hope some dumb shit doesnāt happen in the ending! thatāsā¦ not a joke, I honestly have no idea where the plot goes from here so pls donāt spoil this 20+ year old game for me thanks
i remember the commercial for Parasite Eve II being like, mostly the shower scene.
everyone made SUCH a big deal about it, itās kind of hilarious because itās extremely tame, and honestly kind of classy?
are you going to check out the 3rd birthday? i feel like that game is probably terrible but i donāt know anyone whoās played it and iāve always been kind of curious
My dream for FF16 is that the game is rendered like Amanoās illustrations and has a 2D illustration look to it. Similar to how Dragonball Fighterz or Okami emulate hand-drawn styles.
iām gonna just say this would never work
