found myself messing around in ng+ demon’s souls instead of finishing nioh 2 or making some more progress in saga frontier

i just realised i had the game on my old platter and that - not an emulation quirk, is why i was getting a brief hitch whenever i picked an item up, off an ssd it’s fine
oops

I’ve discovered that there’s a USB adapter and software someone has made to adapt more modern racing wheels to older consoles, and that support goes as far as emulating a Logitech Driving Force and Driving Force Pro, which are compatible with many PlayStation 2 racing games, meaning that with maybe $35 in parts I can source locally plus the price of keeping a PC on when I do it I can play Gran Turismo 4 with full force feedback on @felix’s fancy wheel and I am not going to lie, it’s a tantalising proposition

the problem with modern racing games is all I really want to do is hoon in a reasonably priced, used, early 90s kei car with some fuckoff turbo attached and none of them let me do it anymore

A Valley Without Wind plopped me down in a generated world where my progress was halted by a red slime that was immune to my default fire spell and then wanted me to craft a spell from another element to kill that slime. Okay, fair enough. But I think it also plopped me in an area devoid of the crafting ingredients necessary to do so.

I could be wrong, but I also know that the feeling inspired in me was ennui and exhaustion so I think I’m just going to uninstall it and leave this one for players with more patience for figuring this kinda shit out.

Got my dualshock3 out of storage and had a tactile sensation akin to nausea. That controller is an ergonomic emetic.

Mobile game Tiny Room: basically a room escape game expanded very slightly to almost-an-adventure-game, with a very nice 3d flat shaded diorama aesthetic. What little writing there is is very ESL but legible enough to understand the clues. It’s not super interesting or difficult but this is one of a handful of Exact Things I look for in mobile games so I recommend it if you have my brain. Not as good as The Room series, but probably the next best I’ve played after that.

rip forza, you are the shittiest racing game franchise thats still inexplicably popular. at least gt7 is in the works. idk how much you like rally but WRC 9 would prolly be amazing with that wheel, i play it with a controller and the fucking force feedback on gravel makes it feel like its gonna fly out of my hands

I ended up spending 30 minutes to watch the ending and the bonus stuff and had forgotten how fucked that was. For a game I played through twice the twists didn’t hit me the third time. I think in the same way they always did. Oh okay.

Swery likes games with ritualized murder of women.

Finally read the letter that comes at the end of Noby Noby Boy. Wasn’t expecting the emotional plight of a videogame character desiring the messiness of reality and free will.

Forza Horizon simulates the experience of being some rich tech fuck with forty seven lamborghinis in their Lamborghini account and too much money to know what to do with it and I wish it would tone that down just a little

Forza Motorsport is, these days, not really my thing either

I just want to have to slowly upgrade an ancient car into a winner with nothing but my meagre race winnings, is that too fucking much to ask?

There are some old regular cars in Horizon 2 and 3, at least. They’re still like an Integra or Miata, etc. but they’re more interesting handling models.

sure, but you’re so constantly showered in new cars, money, and other stuff that it barely feels like there’s any actual progression. you buy a car, upgrade it to where you want it to be immediately and then move on

I really really miss having a wheel that works with Forza 4.

Forza used to be like GT: you buy a Yaris or something and make it dangerously overpowered for its size, and you just drive that because fuck you I just wanna drive a 1983 Toyota Starlet forever. If you think any of the newer games have a decent selection of regular cars you gotta play like Motorsport 3 or 4, forza basically skates entirely by on the fact that they dont really seem to have any serious competition anymore. horizon 3 and 4, especially 4, drove me fucking insane with the constant slot machines and loot box shit, showering me in literally hundreds of cars i dont want to drive. forza 7 is also obsessed with collecting cars like fuckng funko pops like fuck you you fuckin piece of shit, i want to drive a japanese square from the 1980s that will last forever!!! oh yeah and dont forget the emphasis on eeesports that completely removed the ridiculous tuning shit from the motorsport games. also like despite all this drivatar stuff the AI really hasn’t changed at all in 10 years bc they still stick to the driving line like glue and ram you every time you try to pass them lol. you can win every race by just corner diving the guy in first. im glad the WRC games are good now because codemasters is just as bad about their rally games as turn 10 is about forza. deeply sad that I can still start up dirt 3 and fly like a fuckin rocket down dirt roads in finland like a bobsled track at 170mph and nothing else can even come close 10 years later

daphny suggested they brought the yaris back a few years ago to cash in on people who played the yaris game as a child being able to purchase cars, which is probably true. i definitely gained an affection for the yaris from that game but also cuz it’s the car that replaced my favorite car ever (the aforementioned toyota starlet) plus you know the toyota vitz slaps in gt3
