Games You Played Today: 358 Threads Over 2

I found out last week that the original Japanese version of Auto Modellista has a completely different handling model that was much worse for the western release and US-tuned Japanese rerelease, so you may wish to give that a shot.

I loaded up The Contra Collection and thought I’d have a time with Hard Corps. It was awkward with X being Shoot and Circle being Jump. I didn’t see an option to change controls. Huh weird.

I went to play Arcade Contra. There was an options to change controls. I froze. I backed out and went to Contra 3 and saw I could change the controls.

I quit out of the game and loaded up the similar Castlevania Collection to find huh, Bloodlines does not have a way to change controls. Whatever shadow dev threw together a megadrive emulator couldn’t get change controls in there.

God…that…Something about this clicked a day latter and I am more mad now. Something about this guy’s personality that nothing can stand silent that everything must be explained and yelled about symbolism.

Like it wasn’t a Chestnut Tree in the game it was a factoid about a Chestnut Tree. Like Tarantino making his characters talk about comic books.

Always doubted this because those Konami collections use a completely different menu than the Mini Consoles/Namco Collection/Kunio Collection but it says so on their website.

The save system already sucked, no screenshot and only one slot. But that you can’t change the controls in the megadrive games is so bad. No one wants to play a platformer with X and circle! Or maybe that’s another thread.

over the last couple of weeks i’ve played through ReCore: Definitive Edition.
this game seemed really interesting on release, but it was an xbone exclusive and there was a lot of talk from reviews about how the back half of the game was empty/unfinished, and the whole thing was a glitchy mess. i’ve not really seen anyone going back to it with the definitive edition, but between that and the fps boost stuff on the new consoles, this game rules. all the mechanics are super satisfying, the platforming constantly feels like you are breaking the game, combat is weirdly difficult but when it’s working it works real well. i had a great time all the way through.
a real ‘they don’t make them like this anymore’ videogame.

i wonder how much of the ‘this feels like a ps2 game’ is coming from suddenly having gamepass and feeling like i’m renting games again

damn, I’m going to have to try this, I really wanted to like this game

The House in Fata Morgana is a Japanese VN that takes place in Europe and in the first hour one character says books couldn’t be mass produced in 1603

As an European this feels like an enormous mistake from the game, because the invention of the printing press in the 15th century is a big deal in Europe history and a key part of the Renaissance. Though obviously Japanese writers and readers wouldn’t know about it without studying Europe history so this is all understandable

Have I just been Ghost of Tsushimaed

Lego Worlds is an extremely structurally weird game that is like half open world adventure thing and half robust brick builder where you have to earn each brick type to use in the builder by buying it from randomly appearing shops or grabbing it from randomly appearing enemies and then building is excruciating because you have to place bricks by fiddling around with a little thumbstick and you end up just always using the prebuilt stuff instead. Bizarre

I feel like I remember wanting to check this out but this sounds like it’d drive me insane. It must be some elaborate ruse to make the physical toy the ultimate experience by comparison.

If you can find it very cheap, I’d say it’s worth messing with just to see the unique ways it uses the open world format. You can just ignore the precision building (the game certainly does). Such a weird, first-draft attempt to apply “Lego principles” to the lawnmower sim

You can change the controls in the original games.
Did they hack the games to take out the ability to change the controls?
(that seems like a thing a collection might do!)

I checked the Steam forums for the game and someone said the following:

I don’t know if you are on the PC version and if it is changed from the other ports, but maybe that’ll help?

I played Dicey Dungeons and am going to play Sekiro right now. Video games are cool.

I can still be mad on prinicple and asserting that in a commercial emulator package features should be universal.

I called it a night on Guilty Gear Strive around 1am yesterday and then my brain kept me awake until 6am unstoppably visualizing chains of dolphin attacks at any time my eyelids were shut. Brain why are you like this

M2 slowly becoming the 90s Guided by Voices of porting, able to nail it out of the park when they want to, but also pretty good at blowing a label’s cash when they can.
