Games You Played Today: 358 Threads Over 2

Thank you, now I can go on a journey of purging the jackass-death-threat game from my memory

I have so many questions about this game

Why did they change the music

Why doesnt it feel like street fighter

Why is every new or returning character, save for karin, lame as hell lol

Like the last thing alpha needed was honda and blanka

can someone ban this user

Actually focused on an unremarkable shooter: Ghost Blade HD. I mysteriously own 2 copies of the Dreamcast version. Getting rid of those soon. As soon as I have energy to sell them to Akihab-zzzzzzzzz

Playing an unremarkable shooter I thought about how I could focus on this but not a shooter I like (any of the ShotTriggers). So at least booted up and played story mode of Astebreed. Game rules. Someone brought up Strike Suit Zero so those two games are wrestling in my mind.

Astebreed is really great outside of some stills that are upsettingly pornographic in the middle of it. Like some real ero-ge stuff. Really snuck up on me. Then it was back to giant robots and saving humanity with your adopted sisters. Game rules knew I was excited for Sakuna for a reason. Maybe it is time to go back to Sakuna.

Can I produce focus and just not buy any fucking video games? Here’s hoping.

I picked up Wizardry 8 during the recent steam sale because I’ve been enjoying a lot of other DRPGs and I figured I’d check this one out, since I hear nothing but glowing praise about this one.

I was initially really charmed by the fact that it felt more like Deus Ex 1 than anything else but after a little while I feel like that charm is wearing thin. The setting is doing absolutely nothing for me - ā€œfantasy with spaceshipsā€ sounds cool at the start but it feels more like a way to deliver both Tolkien and Star Trek jokes more than anything. The dull jokey tone of it all makes me really uninterested in talking to any NPCs which makes the game more difficult since that’s how you’re meant to find out what you’re meant to do to beat the game.

Character creation & party management is the coolest part of the game, and the lethality of combat is actually pretty interesting, and I’d be enjoying this part a lot if combat encounters weren’t both incredibly frequent and extremely slow. Walking across like 20 meters of forest road involves 3 different fights that all take something like 20 minutes to resolve and also drain me of most of my resources.

I really wish I was enjoying this game more. The sheer number of glowing 300+ hour playtime reviews on Steam makes me think there must be something incredible in here, but none of it is coming together in an enjoyable way to me.

i weirdly just bought this game on a whim a day or two ago (it was like 1.50 or something). i remember reading press coverage of it back in the day. i also know Brenda Romero directed it. as someone who used to constantly watch my friends play Might and Magic 6 but never played games in that genre myself (until like… Morrowind i guess), i was always kind of curious to check out more of that stuff. i don’t want to say nostalgia might be the primary driving force for that enthusiasm, but i do feel like you have to be a certain type of person at this point in time to get really into those kinds of games.

I’ve been playing a lot of Knockout City lately. It’s a bit more complicated than it lets on, but not by much. Mostly it’s just a super breezy, quick game to pop into for a few rounds and have a good time.

Saw someone describe it as a sort of ā€œ3D Windjammersā€ which…not really but sure?

I dunno, it’s got a pretty generous free trial, I recommend giving it a whirl.

Thing is, I know for a fact I’m that type of person. I’m an early Morrowind combat apologist and I’ve played enough DRPGs to know I like that style of combat.

I’m starting to think that weirdly the main things getting in the way of me really enjoying Wizardry 8 have to do with things they designed as innovations to the genre and/or things that would’ve been impressive in 2001. The combat isn’t designed to be slow, but it becomes such as a result of every party member doing a yowl and a woosh, and enemies that are no longer tied to a grid-based world and so spend most of their turn running around (and also doing cool but slow attack animations).

Wiz 8 lost mefor the same reasons you mentioned. Wasn’t into the vibe, game was too slow even with an (unofficial?) patch to speed up the combat speed.

Came across this while trying to refresh my memory about the game’s speed. You try it yet? Seems different from the one I used XX years ago

I’ll have to give it a shot, I’m only using Wiz8Fast which just speeds up enemy walking speed in-combat. Cutting down on animation times sounds like it’d be a huge fix, thanks!

Edit: Oh man, I tried it out on a pack of 5 viper frogs and it took me just 3 minutes instead of something like 15. This is a huge improvement!

it’s a damn shame the PS4 version was the first port out and left to die while the Xbone port got a 4k mode and the Switch got ā€œthe game, but harderā€ mode

time to remind everyone that PS+ subscribers chose to get Broforce for free over it and Broforce launched in such a poor state that they outright canceled the Vita port

i wish we got the version of wizardry 8 cleve blakemore claims exists in his like 30 page resignation letter from sir-tech where he describes the australian homosexual agenda putting secret penises into the game and such interesting monsters as ā€œthe rectum gobblerā€ and murderous transsexual furries

i once spent an hour talking my wife down from fistfighting this guy over the walter benjamin take in this very essay while personally just feeling baffled by it in the same way i am by like ā€œfilm crit hulkā€, like, who are the people who get anything out of seeing such basically tepid art opinions expressed in such a weirdly pugnacious and defensive way? is this just the new framing convention for this stuff?

(firing machinegun blindly over barricade) pixar’s inside out while regarded as a minor entry in their filmography actually contains typically understated touches of craft that we dismiss at our peril!!! you sons of bitches!! (jumping on grenade)

Playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the first time and holy moly I am absolute dogshit at this game.

First boss was rough, but now I’m getting decimated by what seem to be normal goons in the second level, and burned through all my magic on these dang horsemen.

I know the game only gets harder from here, but I’m trying!

Clap Hanz Golf has been my ā€œit’s too hot to use anything other than my phoneā€ companion and it’s a pretty fun, if a bit repetitive, golf thing

Definitely one of the handful of things on Apple Arcade where I’m like, I don’t think I’d have bought this outright unless I’d already tried it, but I am now sad that I can’t

chapter 3 is when it really starts going, I recommend you push through

i was obsessed with alpha 3 when i was like 12-13, and it was the first street fighter game i played a lot of. so to me, it’s the standard street fighter, and i think of other street fighter games in terms of the ways in which they’re different to it
