Spent some time with the RE Remaster on PC:

It launches at 60fps and this seems to break the damage received/inflicted as well as the enemy detection radius. After experimenting for 45 mins I set the frame rate to 30 and that seems to fix the issue. Surprised nobody is talking about this online, not even the speed runners.

The redone backgrounds are completely devoid of colour and the lightning seems to be even worse than the GC original. Sound effects also seem to be screwed up in a way I can’t quite pinpoint.

I eventually made it to the storeroom cutscene with Rebecca and her theme started playing at double speed. Turns out most of the back-half of the game has bugged music so I guess I’ll just stick to playing this in Dolphin.

Kowloon High school Chronicle

One thing I haven’t mentioned about this game is that I’m playing on hard, and hard mode is busted. Regular enemies kill in 3-4 hits and bosses in 2, and they can all attack multiple times per round if I end my turn close enough to them. My attacks kill regular enemies in about 5-10 hits when hitting a weakness. This is a solo turn based RPG.

The difficulty is so ridiculous to the point that it has become sisypheanly good. I had to develop a strategy of Never Getting Hit by focusing on guns, agility and geology + grind grind grind and complete a ton of quests for various shady strangers. I fight every battle by basically maintaining a distance and shooting from afar, staying in a corner of a room, and using my min/maxed movement stats to dash to another corner of the room when enemies get too close. Again, this is a turn based RPG. The moment to moment gameplay is just so dumb, in a way so novel and fresh

That assault carbine might be the best weapon in the game and I got it after 20 hours of penny pinching. (Admittedly I never levelled the money-related classes up much because skill points are too precious) It was incredible when I first got it, and now it’s just… necessary

Each new boss feels impossible and it’s just so draining and I feel like I might give up facing the new one, Thoth

Those scissors man

Thoth has huge HP and too much mobility, he can reach any place in the boss room if he’s in a good position so I’m afraid I will have to push him around with a special pushing weapon/skill and THEN hide in the farthest corner to survive throughout the whole battle. This will be excruciating

Here are my stats. Grades are improved with skill points and they go C1-> C2->…->C9-> B1->…->A9->S->SS
Not sure whether I want to raise my ethics, biology, home economics or chemistry next

Since I’ve reached max favorability rank (= two golden ankhs) with all the quest givers and got all their special items, I’m thinking about accepting and completing new quests from them but running off with the items instead of handing them over. My reputation with the Rosetta Association will plummet but the permanent stat boosts from all the hotdogs and steaks + the weird potentially combinable items I would get might be worth it

Being constanty amicable with everyone during the social link story day time has backfired on me because this game isn’t Persona. Being on good terms with everyone is not enough, you need to pick the perfect reaction at the right time to recruit people and being an average amicable guy often doesn’t cut it. I have already missed 5 characters I think. This isn’t too much of a big deal gameplay wise but my forever incomplete phone book leaves a hole in my soul

I unfortunately can’t fully recommend the game because some of the bosses are disastrous caricatures from the early 2000s that I will not show

Yeah I think it’s a good game – sort of fighting game adjacent. A lot of jukes and reads but also very teamwork centric.

There’s even more wacky ways to die when you get to the town area:

  • eat too many hotdogs
  • get arrested for forgery
  • buy a gun

And even a nonsensical way to win the game, by praying to the gods about 50 times in a row until a God appears and gives you a pass so you can go play video games

Harmony of Despair reused so many assets they even reused half of a previous game’s subtitle
