some people (wasps, scientists) really don’t like conflict and that’s usually what leads to the confusion around pathologizing it; I can understand and respect this but if you’re sufficiently fussy, melodramatic, and sonorous to begin with, it’s really not worth fretting over
My wife and I aren’t exactly avatars of mental health although we’ve been much luckier than most people in most other aspects of our lives. Sorry I was glib. We don’t need to move this discussion anywhere - I regret the tone I took.
thanks for the tip have you ever considered teaching a class on this it might really help a lotta folks, i could see you doing really well
Being angry is fine and it’s a valid emotion and some people convey anger differently.
It actually gets worse if you beat yourself up for it so try to be understanding to both yourself and your partner! I think that’s the most important thing.
today my wife and I argued about:
- whether I should throw out my shirt that has two holes in it
- how many blinds we have to close to keep the apartment from getting too warm
- if I’m going to get skin cancer by insisting on spending the better part of my sabbatical in the hammock without sunscreen
- whose idea it was to drive to the goddamn beach and have to find parking rather than bike there
- whether the burger king wouldn’t have run out of soft serve if we’d gotten there 5 minutes earlier and if so whose fault this was
- whether it’s OK to make eye contact with people’s dogs on the sidewalk and say “who’s a cute lindbergh baby” in a dog voice
- if there is already too much expired yogurt in the fridge or whether I should get more just to be safe when I go to costco on tuesday
- whether I should check in with my friend who mentioned wanting a ride to ikea or “give him space to reach out”
anyone play any cool games today? i played flower sun and rain and the part in the church where they play a song from the silver case on the organ is really affecting
yeah I’m living my outlaw dream being an idol
finally feeling like I’m getting some kind of payoff from all those hours I spent on karaoke with haruka in kiwami 2 just to get a reduced encounter rate item I couldn’t tell any difference with
Note to self: eat up martha
Here’s the way my wife and I fight.
She approaches me and makes a very logical observation about (rarely) something I have done wrong or (much more often) something I have not done that I really should do, and then reasonably suggests that I fix the problem sometime in the next six hours instead of spending that entire time playing world of warcraft or watching bad direct to video action movies.
I stare at her like a dog that’s been shown a card trick.
She scoffs and walks away.
I played Virtua Fighter 5 today
Slowly working through Super Metroid for the…I guess sorta first time, since I’ve never finished it.
Kept trying to remember why I’ve bounced off this game so many times, got to Maridia, and…yeah, that’ll do it.
I mean, I beat the boss and got the upgrades I need from there, but fuck that place and its shitty sand waterfalls, and specifically those two rooms where you gotta climb a sand waterfall to get out.
hey softies!
just got back transporting an eLeech to Podish. Yeah, that’s right, the Gulp-Down came early this cycle and let me tell you, Leepky was more engorged than I’ve ever seen him. Keep him away from that phegma, he’s a fiend for it. You’re looking at the Eleection champion twice running, right here (and I was well-rewarded, let me tell you).
nyway, the P-Beam’s live so I just picked up my Spiral and I’m off to hop the Passage to Glorx.
catch you later, you beebs
Started replaying Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl for the first time since… 2009.
It’s still a classic, I was worried it would be hard to get into because of the reputation of jank but not at all, it’s so immediately gripping and it has better Systems than any modern AAA open world game, the world feels so rich and dynamic compared to all the open world games that came later.
I firmly believe that Stalker ShC is the only real followup to the Deus Exian ‘immersive sim’.
dragon quest heroes 2
But the jank is part of the fun!
The closest my girlfriend and I came to having a fight in the last years was when playing videogames in co-op. Either Lego games because someone advanced the level when another one was still looking for secrets or when playing It Takes Two although I forget what the problem was there.
Videogames make people toxic
Oh trust me I know, but it can be a barrier to entry even for games that I have previously loved (cf my many abortive efforts to replay the Gothic games)
Sonic Adventure DX has this really ugly stuttering on steam. It runs at 60fps, but skips constantly like it’s drunk. I checked everything I could, changed the nvidia graphics settings, ran in compatibility, tried vsync. Is the game just bugged? I’m considering downloading the better SADX mod but I don’t want to go through the hassle if it doesn’t fix the performance issue
edit: just installing the mod anyway
