Zoroark is level 90 in Pokemon White 2. I think getting them to level 100 would require 8 more runs of the Elite 4, which would be annoying but in the grand scheme of things isn’t that many. Three other pokemon are above level 70. I can make it to the champion and then get clobbered now, sometimes. Basically I’m 98% for getting past everyone except the fighting type master, and then 50% for getting past him. When I make sure to use amulet coin this run is now fully sustainable in terms of healing items. It’s going to happen. It will be fascinating to say that I’ve raised a pokemon to level 100 for the first time in what must be nearly 30 years. Like 26, or 27 years.

Nevermind, I beat the champion again. Just had to look up her pokemon types. Going to try N battle now.

I beat N. That was way too easy. He had one legendary. I guess I’m done? Zoroark is only level 91 right now though.

I feel like Dead Space (original) has a good game buried somewhere in it. Waiting to ripout like the new stage in human evolution.

Everything making it a AAA game of the time makes it worse. The 5 times in the first 10 minutes including one time before you even have a gun saying SHOOT THE LIMBS. The constant tutorials. Half-life 2 gravity gun powers to move giant batteries to battery size holes.

The Ishimura may be falling apart but the elevators and trams will never fail you. I do not need an orchestra falling down the stairs every time a monster shows up. And there are a lot of monsters. That I shoot, in the limbs, not the head.

If the writing was dumber or smarter it would be better. I love Issac has this giant screaming stomp and you can do it all the time, undercutting everything. Just like my power tool cuts through Limb Flesh.

glad the STORE STORE STORE system on the ship still works.

That I haven’t gotten a pop-up tutorial for the voices I hear is surprising. Just a tiny touch of subtle among the graffiti in Japanese that says ā€œThey are All Deadā€. The one blood grafitti that was alien runes? That was cool. Everytime I interacted with a human who immediately ragdolled and then I could stomp into pieces with my giant foot? Not so much.

Dead Space As Good As It Was Then.

I do actually want to play the remake, as someone who loved the original game and had greatly diminishing returns with the sequels

bloomberg strikes me as a particularly insane source of news for an indie game

There are fewer and fewer sources of news in general, so.

It is written by Jason Schrier. He’s probably one of the few people who worked in games journalism when shovelknight came out who still had a personal contact email at Yacht Club.

I tried to play some more Diablo IV but got stuck in an interminable update of some sort and I could feel the grains of sand in my life’s hourglass slipping away so I said screw it and deleted the game.

Then I booted up Stray and so far I’m liking it, although it’s a little disappointing that the platforming isn’t more freeform. Also somehow I, the king of suspending disbelief, am having a hard time with your protagonist being a preternaturally intelligent cat and at least so far basically nobody comments on this.

runnin around in smtv is fun. it’s a very good demon hang out game. i’ve only finished smt3 and the super famicom version of megami tensei 1 but i would like to return to the good old world of ā€œcharacter stands in middle of screen to talk to youā€ form of demon game. maybe if and after i finish this demon game.

i feel like i am tip toeing off a neutral path with how i’ve handled some of these side-quests. maybe i just wanted a bunch of lilims to be able to go to tokyo and didn’t care what the statue of liberty had to say. life is short

Accidentally downloaded Crash Bandicoot 4 when I meant to download the Crash 1-3 remake, so decided to hop back in where I stopped years back. My opinion remains the same: the developers decided, for better and worse, that they had two objectives:

  1. Create a game that is a sequential increase in complexity and challenge from Crash 3
  2. No one’s ever going to make Crash 5, so get it all in for this one.

It’s the kind of game that has infinite lives on by default, and it’ll let you switch to limited lives, but it advises you not to do that. Even with limited lives on it’s still balanced so that after losing 13 lives on a level I was still only down 2 net lives. I’m not sure I can fault the game for doing all this; they gave me what I thought I wanted. I would have been disappointed if anything was left on the table.

So, Toys For Bob, what have you been up to after 3 back to back decent mascot platformer games?

I caught Reshiram and Kyurem in White 2, and N’s Zoroark is now level 95. I will make it level 100 at some point, just not tonight. Reshiram is named Socrates, because it’s a deity of truth, and Kyurem is named Mesmer, because it’s name reminded me of the movie Kyuru and also because it is a sad and disturbing pokemon and Kyuru is a sad and disturbing movie.

Finished Stray Children and I have come to the conclusion that… it’s great! Felt like one ginormous, sprawling reflection on playing/making videogames, childhood, the loss of innocence, an entire lifetime spent as a working adult, the strange obsessions that power society and the ruling class, the unresolved traumas of older generations, death and the intermediary space that exists between all those things. Also very silly!

I could probably write tomes about it but, for right now, I’ll just say it felt like a fitting tribute/swansong of sorts to everything that came out of love-de-lic and that staff’s shared history at Square, while also serving as a kind of pseudo-sequel to moon: Remix RPG Adventure… it all comes full circle! I was surprised that for a game seemingly so focused on the past, in the end, it left me feeling hopeful for a future not yet written…

Played more Stray and I am really enjoying it. Some good tense moments when you’re juking and jiving to get away from the baddies, and enough secrets to ferret out if you’re inclined. I have a weapon now which is simultaneously powerful and limited. Good stuff.

Soundtrack is great too
