Iconoclasts has a shred of Drill Dozer DNA in it but this was not enough to keep me going for more than about an hour or so. Frankly? The game wants to throw a bunch of mid-web-comic-level worldbuilding shit at me, and while I might be up for that usually, the terrible dialogue is too much for me to sit through. Especially the attempts at humor. Woof.

There are kernels here, but they’re trapped in a turd.

All of my pokemon are level 68 or higher now. About halfway through legend road. I cheated and used a rare candy though because I wanted to save and go to bed.

Finally finished Cyberpunk 2077, thankfully in under a hundred hours as there was a time I was worried it’d take that long and I’d have to post it in that one thread. Anyways it was at the higher end of my expectations, I think the main storyline has issues as I largely ignored all the various Arasakas for much of my playtime and chose an ending path that basically removed them entirely so I honestly don’t know how that whole thing was supposed to wrap up which feels problematic given their focus. Taking a quick peak at the various endings I think I ended up picking the best one for me let’s just go be nomads. Anyways I sometimes like sneaking through expensive looking worlds and this offered that, like at one point I went ā€œjeez I remember playing the original Donkey Kong as a kid, this is so far beyond that technologically and in scope/budget that it’s almost absurdā€.

Have also been playing Patrick’s Parabox an area or so at a time alongside it and am almost finished with the main levels as well (up to what appears to be the final section before whatever bonus puzzles it has). It is odd as it is clearly good, well considered and such, very much feels like the game Patrick wanted to make… but perhaps not entirely the game I wish they made? It’s a bit breadth over depth, it really could use some trimming (I’m through 287 puzzles and there’s still some remaining) but mainly it’s very clinical while I wish it was more inspired in terms of puzzle design. I’ve actually described the game as almost a course where the dev teaches you all the various aspects of this main mechanical idea, each area a class that introduces a specific concept and walks you through the various things that can be done with it in a way where very little is wrong per se but it rarely surprised me or threw a puzzle in my way that caught my fancy or made me go ā€œokay, that was a clever way to go about thatā€. I think that’s perhaps largely a personal preference TBF.

Has anybody played this one?

Super Mario Eclipse:

It looks really cool, but I am holding off playing it, because I am waiting that they fix a compatibility issue with the new audio tracks on Nintendont (I plan to play it on the Wii U).

I’m friends with one of these people now and taught them how to pirate old Star Trek games.

Steamworld Dig was pretty delightful to hit credits on. My roomate mentioned it reminded him of Alfred Chicken, a game I’ve never played but I can see some aesthetic similarities.

Looking forward to trying the sequel over the weekend. Also plan on trying Heist 2 soon.

The devs got bought by Atari recently and are getting restructured. Not sure what to think exactly of that but doesn’t seem great.

SteamWorld Heist 2 is great. I was disappointed to hear last year that the devs (those who weren’t laid off) wouldn’t be allowed to make original games anymore.

I really enjoyed Dig, but Dig 2 is a shockingly good build-up on what the first game does.

That said, don’t be me. Don’t try to rush to the end. Don’t miss the very easy to get upgrade near the end of the game that cuts damage in half. Hahaha.

One try, very easy. I used more healing items on Victory Road than the Elite 4. One of the better pokemon games. 18:33 clear time so even faster than my estimate.

It’s gross of me to even notice but I feel like the character of the 3000 year old immortal depressed man is the result of a bowdlerized Japanese misunderstanding of The Wandering Jew. Like they heard that story and didn’t understand it was just antisemitism, their takeaway was a man magically cursed to immortally wander the earth thousands of years ago was a cool idea. Sorry for being an insane person. I can only hope nobody else made this association.

Played like another 9 hours of Death Stranding… I only have the month of August remaining with a PS5 handy so Im trying to make the most of it. Every time I sit down to play I learn something new or gain further mastery…

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is pretty good! definitely feels more like the original games than i was expecting, although the difficulty is balanced very differently. something else i like, though, is that you can equip items to raise your rank and the difficulty of the game (which in effect would make the game play closer to the original NES games). i also wasn’t expecting the game to be as connected to the original games as it is.

it’s cute because the game is a literal ā€œGaidenā€ to those games, which were only a Gaiden in the West because Ryukenden would have stumped 98% of all English speakers in the 80s.

anyway, i made it to like 4-2 yesterday and will keep going at some point.

also, re: the two main characters meeting each other, i think it would have been more fun if you could choose which character to stab

tokimeki memorial is so fucking scary…

i love the neglect system but i don’t think its realistic to have people spread rumors about you if you don’t hang out with them enough.

i think having one beautiful date with someone during a mutually weird time and then not talking for 3 years can actually increase the yearning. has anyone done a mechanic like this in the dating sim field

At the part of Shadow of the Tomb Raider where I just gotta mow down a ton of croaking atavistic natives in a cave and damn this shit sucks as much now and it did back then. Both in that they suck to fight, mechanically, and they suck to fight, uh, in a morally reprehensible way.

Game devs please restrain yourself from ā€œdark continentā€ style tropes please god.

done the first day in boku no natsuyasumi 2. i just thought it seemed cute to run it by the date (game starting august 1st). the house boku gets to stay at is so difficult to grasp and kinda fun, everythings pretty and people are nice. i’m sure i’m just another sap who learns examining the water makes boku jump in, no hesitation. got immediately scared i’d be getting shit during dinner for showing up wet. i mean that wouldn’t be the tone of this game but i felt it.

etrian 3. started my 3rd run on which i’m taking the ā€œtrueā€ path. retired my team and switched up the classes to keep things fresh. i have been doing etrian 3 for over 100 hours. fuck. it’s good tho.

i finished a re-run of resident evil 7 while ymer is gone so i don’t show him spoilers. i want to get around to the dlc stuff, probably tomorrow. they look conceptually great, particularly the room escape. did just briefly start up end of zoe to punch some mold. re7 is amazing but no secret the last stretch is very uneven. i never really look forward to the saltmines run. anyway, i don’t know if i’m just thrown off by her shiny crystal skin but does zoe have an entirely different face in end of zoe? like i swear this is a different character

Got Hotline Miami on switch since I missed it the first time. Not sure this works well as a twin stick shooter. Maybe I’m just bad at this. Looks stylish as heck, wonder what ever happened to cactus. Dude used to be the most prolific dev.

I played through both games on PS4, somehow, but did try on the Vita (bailed immediately)

trying to imagine playing on joycons and screaming.

nah, Hotline Miami’s just not very well-designed. well-presented, yes, but mechanically it’s all trial-and-error when it ought to be free-wheeling and random when it desperately needs to be reliable

hotline miami is extraordinarily overrated and the sequel is a genuinely awful game because they doubled down on long as fuck sightlines and windows everywhere and basically all the shit that made the first one trial and error bs. not even considering the stupid controversy the devs created around it on purpose
