I used to work in this office park, when I was at Mobius (testing for Guild Wars 2)

Astrobot is really hitting all the right notes for me, which makes me wonder a bit if i am a sappy middleaged idiot who likes the snarky pandering too much, or if it’s just the playfulness around every corner that i’m so much in love with.

The idle animations of anything in this game are worth playing around with it, and i laughed so many times while playing it, that i was wondering:
when was the last time i had as much fun with a game … haven’t found an answer yet.

In any case, when i saw that in my puny friendlist nobody has played it yet … felt a bit for them missing out on this crazy botness :teleshrug:

I think part of the trouble is that when you hear Astro Bot described it sounds like it would be bad. It’s a mascot platformer with references to other games and even ā€œtributeā€ levels based on specific (mostly boring) games.

But it’s hard not to be won over by it even if, like me, you see all of the above as strikes against it. Having played the VR game I already knew I was going to play it, but unfortunately most people haven’t had the privilege of playing the VR title (best thing ever done in VR, in my opinion, aside from the Rez conversion).

absolutely can second most of what you said, aside from the VR stuff — now i want to ask the only friend i know who has a PSVRv2 to being it along next time we meet up later this year, thanks for the rep!

but yeah, main takeaway really is to give it a shot against the odds, and now i understand why so many awards have been thrown at it.

Also have been taking some snapshots/pixx, but have to get them off the PS5 first.

Unfortunately, the Astro Bot game works only in PSVR1. But if you also have a friend with that I would recommend doing whatever you can to get a chance to try it out. The new game definitely does not make the first one obsolete.

placeholder to elaborate for later. i’ve played through arcade mode 2x and story 1 more time, and i retract some of the things i said, but some remain.

edit:

ok so, new thoughts after playing:

  • combat is fun, especially if playing the game in arcade mode and not really worrying about exploration. then it’s more of a ā€œhow fast can i cut through all these peopleā€ thing. i think for the kind of game they’ve made, the movement is a decent compromise between old and modern.
  • music is not as bad as i originally thought, but because of the production and mixing, it doesn’t really pop out. it isn’t like, amazing or anything, but there is definitely more variety there than my original impression.
  • no dialogue in arcade mode!

I’ve been pretty down lately so I have been playing Power Wash Simulator a lot. The stakes are low and it’s soothing. The annoying part is the pixel hunting at the end to get that last 1 percent to finish the map and get five stars.

People shit on it because it should have been free, but Switch 2 Welcome Tour is actually a really nice piece of software, and I think it’s worth the admission price.

Been having a lot of fun with Path of Achra, thanks for the big post about it!!

My latest (second) victory was a lady that endlessly teleported and blew up the whole map every time. My first taste of victory was with a goblin that got hopped up every time I sacrificed an item and rubbed his feet on the carpet a lot zapping everything constantly.

I’ve been trying to make a ā€œsummon weak monsters every turn buildā€ work but I’m too weak at the beginning…

14 minesweeper variants is my life rn. the process of figuring out a tricky variant is so engrossing that the variant in question becomes my favourite once i’ve internalized it. we’ll see about Cross though

I got to play Last Express which is very good, excellent, one of the most Adult games I’ve ever played. Jordan Mechner and team were on another dang level. Just as good as it gets.

The Steam version is garbage.

I was so impressed that even as the game moves forward in real time. You still don’t even know who you’re playing as. His identity gets dropped by a british man who talks too much. There is gay stuff. There is languages and cultures and the boiling pot that is 1914 Balkans. I gave up on my playthrough because the constant feeling I was making the ā€œwrongā€ decision at all times made me real uncomfortable. I had played for about two hours and finished my playthrough in a longplay which I enjoyed greatly.

This almost perfectly matches my experience, though I had it on disc, so I cannot speak to the Steam issues. Hell of a game. I have rarely felt more out of my depth.

disgaea 1 - i beat disgaea 2 in 5th grade and never played another one until now. i remember this American magazine ad for disgaea in either tips & tricks or shonen jump

i think i would have had a magazine with this in kindergarten or 1st grade? i’m sure my mom had an opinion on etna’s design. as disgusting as it all is i must turn the other cheek. 90s anime is Mel brooks, 00s anime is the wayans brothers, 10s anime is the workaholics guys

disgaea 1 really feels like a windows game you would buy at comiket but its on ps2. there’s graphic design and shit. i feel like there should be a level editor.

i think playing disgaea 2 when i was 11 ruined my chances of ever getting into final fantasy tactics. i spoiled my appetite

Got the MemCardPro2 set up. I had prepared a list of devlish games I had not or been meaning to touch months ago and now forced to deal with my decisions.

Killzone 1 It looks great. I thought it looked great at the time. It is A Video Game. Having this year played Killzone 1 surprised and not to see a lot of the same limitations. The stages I saw were more shooting galleries with rarely having contact with the Helgast.

Simpsons Hit and Run I had to check the name of this four times. Was it this or the other one. This is the GTA Clone. I’d say they did the assignment exceedingly well. The premise of being mean to your community and family and neighbors through your ā€œstupidtyā€ isn’t a joke I find funny anymore. It is a full on stupid video game with no rules.

Castlevania Curse of Darkness the PS2 CV no one played. So I did for about 2 hours. And maybe I’ll play more. I remember Lament of Innocence was a lot of square feature-less rooms. So is this. It really feels like SotN, 3D, nothing changed. I wouldn’t call it good but this ā€œhigh-budgetā€ but forgettable PS2 game is a real comfort food. Nothing expected, Nothing gained outside of a way to pass the time. Real nice baked in light textures.

These were definitely 3 Things I can call Video Games. The next games to play are crap like Malice and Evil Twin and the PS2 Crash games. You know stuff No One Likes.
