Ah StarHorse, the game of choice of chain-smoking ojisan.
This dude in Ibaraki’s house is a delight. Bought his childhood candyshop and turned it into this beautiful private museum. Lots of incredible things in the corner to catch your eye.
Wish it had more panning shots of the shelves. I was trying to zoom in on that behind stuff PS2 shelf that seemed to have 11 copies of some Winning Eleven.
love to immortalize the all-winning eleven fukubukuro
The electromechanical games really impressed me. Ninja Gun and Submarine are stunning to look at even now:
Feels so weird to turn your childhood home into your personal gamestop museum though. Conflicted about that.
God that Submarine game looks incredible.
He talks about “If you get the chance you should try it” and I was yelling at the TV BUD i Think You Got The Only One Left On Earth!
How far are you from Ibaraki, Rudie
I could go there and back in a day but it would be a whole day thing.
Hmm maybe visiting a tiny game collection museum isn’t the best reason to go to Ibaraki lol
It’s probably one of like three interesting things total in Ibaraki.
Whoa my family had one of those “Microvision” handheld things in the back of the case @ 24:05.
Also this video got me to look up the GB version of Popeye, which aside from the title screen
was not at all what I was expecting.
This is a very valuable video because people keep using these terms interchangeably and not understanding what they mean.
I genuinely unironically enjoy Scott the Woz - anyway this video reminded me of so many things I’ve forgotten about the Xbox.
Like how insane Microsoft was about making the 360 a multimedia box lol
So many stupid E3s where all they showed were TV and movies. Thanks Don Mattrick.
I also genuinely forgot The Last of Us originated on the PS3.
How many times have they remade this thing??
I do remember people comparing the art direction of the remakes to the PS3 version and saying how it lost its visual identity, but that was ages ago.
FUCK I COMPLETELY FORGOT THE NEXT GEN XBOX AFTER THE 360 WAS CALLED “XBOX ONE”, HGHFHGFF
semi related i also forgot, but only cuz i needed to talk myself out of the belief there was a console generation between the 360 and the One. mostly because 1) i compartmentalized the 360 as a mid 2000s console and forgot it lasted until 2013 actually 2) i still think of the xbox one as a current gen console because i still have a hard time with keeping track of how much time has passed since 2020 3) i refused to believe that they called their console Xbox One, a name that might as well be just Xbox, only 3 generations in. its a reboot ass title that i associate with like, having more sequels before coming to that decision lol
anyways scott is okay to me. when he was very very popular i watched a lot and couldnt see why he was so praised at the time, but i think its just cuz he carries that early 2010s youtuber energy i saw a lot with avgn and all that channel awesome stuff, but with a much snappier pace that works better in keeping your attention. whenever im curious or clickbaited i tend to get my fill by half an episode before forgetting about him for awhile again
This is a great way of summarizing his vibe! In my case, it kinda feels like listening to a younger cousin talk about games, with big excitement and exaggeration but also from a POV I didn’t have from growing up in an older generation. But also some of the gags he does get me really hard; I’ll always enjoy when he throws a copy of Chibi Robo 3DS into the toilet.
it’s crazy how so many post-2000 consoles want to be media boxes, and none of them have had a built in video player that will just play any video file from a usb stick, with the subtitles at a reasonable size
