unrelated to the video but it didn’t occur to me until today for whatever reason how much this song sounds like an XTC song. maybe something like this (tho really the entire songwriting style is very much like an XTC song).
i know XTC was fairly popular in Japan so i guess it’s not that surprising
fine isn’t good enough for me. there’s too many videogames to accept serviceable imo
not linking because it’s garbage and doesn’t deserve the views. this got autoplayed on my ps4 while i was doing something else and it’s the embodiment of everything i hate in lazy mainstream games criticism, especially on youtube.
the premise is where it starts: the guy’s just done his own little metacritic, making average scores from old magazines and ordering his list like that, rather than playing games and having opinions of his own. then there’s the script. if the guy didn’t show himself at the start, i would’ve thought this was an auto-generated video. everything he says is obviously just phrases from old reviews randomly stitched together, sometimes to the point of being rendered nonsensical. it can be kind of funny hearing the kind of phraseology only found in 1980s uk games magazines being read out by a 2020s youtube american, but because the things he’s saying are so unfamiliar to him, his cadence often sounds off, with pauses in weird places, and wrong homonyms being read out.
finally, he has, for some reason, got this terrible sad/dramatic backing track playing on top of all the game music and sounds.

as someone who is frequently irrationally annoyed, i have been coming around on the possibility for such irritations to contain meaningful messages. even if we don’t quite understand what they are, or if they have aspects we’d rather not drape on ourselves for fear of being petty or ignoble. and maybe not immediately either, but given enough breathing room…

I’ve come to really enjoy Pat’s perspective; his attitude toward Dawntrail more or less matches my own. If that holds true here, maybe I’d like the remake as well…?
