i like when you have walking pace animations in a 3rd person game even/especially when there is no point to ever walking

I wish somebody would do a game where if you run all the time people actually treat you as they would a weirdo who runs all the time.

And your character is constantly catching their breath.

Reading back through this thread I’m trying to imagine a game featuring every thing every one has mentioned and it is awesome. Like, multiple playable characters but some of them have slight differences in their actual movement speed vs. their animation, and some of them run everywhere punching things a million times a second while others like teleport or dash around (I love a good dash move, myself) and it’s broken and jank enough that you’re always finding new shortcuts etc. and everyone’s wearing long flowing scarves and jumping and flipping around off of everything and light sources from vehicles or whatever leave long but slowly fading light trails and every weapon has some kind of physical affect on player movement/momentum.

That would be a game right there.

My sister spent a lot of time playing Breath of the Wild the last few months. This means my mother has spent a lot of time watching Breath of the Wild. It’s probably been her first prolonged exposure to a video game.

“Why is he always running! Doesn’t he get tired? Doesn’t it make you feel tired? This is stressing me out! I’m going to my room”

I hear a variation of this nearly every day.

The only other thing that gets her this upset is when she sees people outside wearing anything short of a parka when it’s below 55ÂșF.

I think she just wants everyone to relax and be free and be warm.

downwell is easily my 2015 GOTY after undertale, and it’s $3

definitely try it

i really like how Link runs in BotW. Not only is the pace of his stamina regenerating actually kind of bicycle-pump satisfying when you get it down, but his hyperactive limbs flailing animation w/ sweatdrops flying everywhere is funny and cute to watch. It felt like kind of a clumsy game at first, but controlling BotW is fun and almost fluid at times

On that note, any game where you can or must slide is going to make me happy. probably because it makes me think of sledding. Shields in BotW are exclusively for shieldboarding and turn it into secretly the best snowboarding game in years, because it’s the only one where you can jump onto and off of the slopes with a parachute whenever you want.

Steep has speed gliding in a DLC, to be fair

The first Assassin’s Creed treated anything above natural walking speed as an extreme act of public disorder

sleepysmiles Bulletstorm fandom confirmed.

i haven’t played it yet but if you can slide i’m definitely already a fan!

Sliding is like a central thing you have to do all the time for speed and scores. It brings your foot up so you can kick the heck out of some bad guys. It’s hilarious.

My favorite slide is in Far Cry 2

imo Bulletstorm is not nearly as fun as it thinks it is

when you click the stick to sprint in dragon’s dogma and your character does the little shoulders-forward head-down intro to the sprinting animation

The eternal problem of any game trying to be ‘like Tony Hawk’ and then gives you 6 ways to score points at any given moment instead of 42

I like it when there’s a unique animation for running into a wall, especially if there are different animations depending on your speed.

The only game I can actually think of that does this, though, is Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure. I seem to remember it was dependent on how long you were running, and if you were running for a long time and smacked face first into a wall you would straight up pass out for a minute. Great stuff.
