FUCK YEAH DRAGON QUEST (Part 2)

It’s worth doing, definitely, and didn’t take too long. The new area levels you up ridiculously fast, IIRC.

Yeah, I get that VII runs a bit long (I dunno, I just finished the volcano bit in DWVII), but comparing it to at least the demo for Reimagined, it’s kinda depressing how much got cut. Said it before in the Games You Played thread, but cutting all the puzzles (for getting the armor pieces, anyway) to open the temple is such a bummer. Reimagined instead has you do a dead-simple fetch quest to complete the first tablet (which you do in the original, too) and…that’s it! You just get right to that first island.

Seems like it’d be fun as a sort of alternate digest version, but I just can’t gel with them cutting a bunch stuff out…or making the old sage not horny…how are you gonna say you’re honoring Toriyama and cut out a horny old man…

Somewhere there’s a quote from the director of the new game saying that their drive to simplify and speed up the opening was because he got bored of it as a kid. Boo! I found a lot of stuff boring as a kid and I was wrong!

Anyway, I should probably stop playing VII and get back to I HD-2D, but…damn is it just me or is it really fucking hard? I’m at the boss at the top of the tower right now and either gotta grind a bit more or try to get lucky and take it out.

I know (original as in the ugly Switch remake) 2 is harder than (original as in the ugly Switch remake) 1, but the HD-2D 2 has gotta be easier than HD-2D 1. At least you’ve got a party to revive you (or at least take some hits).

Yeah 1 HD2D was pretty hard for me as well, even after switching back to normal difficulty. I am assuming it’s mainly because the original only had one enemy at a time and now there’s multiple. I found the main strategy for some of the bosses was switching equipment mid-battle depending on what sort of elements they were using etc

fwiw I just got ruff at like the 4 hour and change mark and I’m finding the combat satisfyingly difficult on hard as long as you haul ass which is exactly what I wanted

probably get to alltrades at like the 7 hour mark at this rate

I’ve spent like 10 hours over the past week just grinding for jobs at the end of DW7 and I love it so much. I probably could have beaten it easily by now, but I need a Summoner, dammit.

Damn, I forgot they did this to our boy Gabo.

Quite the review.

a blunt and provocative statement on the basic pointlessness of human existence

(this remake sounds kinda bad but) don’t tempt me with a good time avclub

i have mixed feelings on this VII remake because i think the original is so distinctive and has to be what it has always been in order to be meaningful as a game

i see so many folks clamoring for a Chrono Trigger remake that looks like this game, and i hear and bear witness to a finger on the monkey’s paw curl

At least half of that review sums up my experience with the original lol.

Wonder why your link has the micro article thing but mine was just a regular link

Oh my apologies, I didn’t see that (try putting a line between the comment and the link maybe?)

No worries, everyone should read about the villain that made DQ British lol

I did put a line break between the text and link originally but it didn’t do anything :yellowthingpig:

DQ being british is great though. Bloody yanks i swear

The problem with the localisation is mostly their insistence on every town having racist uncle style goofy accents

Edit: the aussie tourists in XI were pretty great too
