How do folks allocate seeds
Iâve started giving them all to my Hero cuz Iâm lazy
In 5 I gave that shit to my hero every time without fail
i always give my main guy permanent plus ones in every single jrpg you cant stop me
str/mag/mp to whoeverâs already good at those, def/hp to whoeverâs bad at those, agility seeds tear your hair out trying to guess what youâll wish youâd done when youâre standing on the throne of hell and wielding your own flesh in the face of god, most important thing is someone eats them as soon as you pick them up
feed them to the guy whose about to leave your party for the rest of the game
i saw a guy in a gamefaqs thread for dq7 seriously suggest this because the game gives you âtoo manyâ and it ruins your characters stat growth when they level. i dont know if thats true but you have to admire his ideology
I just finished the first scenario of dq7⌠the sky is clear and bright but the clouds in my soul remainâŚ
I known itâs likely because Iâm a weak baby when it comes to JRPGs, but even with all the QoL stuff people hate about these HD-2D remakes on (heal on level up, Zoom anywhere, etc.), Dragon Quest I keeps kicking my ass.
Just made it to the golem outside of Cantlin after barely beating the Mirages in the forest. Gonna need to grind a bit, probably. Guy is real good at one or two shotting ya, real quick.
Do appreciate how thereâsâŚnot quite clearly delineated areas you shouldnât go in, but the game clues you in pretty quickly via enemies that you should not go any further. Wanted to see what was beyond this huge stretch of poison swamp, took two steps, and immediately got annihilated by a troll and two blue dragons. Thatâs what I get!! For exploring!!
i also like to give all seeds to the hero (same for any equivalent in other RPGs). i like the hero to be a powerhouse plus the individual gains are small enough that it feels better to me to concentrate them in one character
something that is already driving me slightly OCD nuts in DQ4 NES is you cant really horde seeds to give to the hero later, since thereâs no bag and inventory space is so limited. i did have Ragnar exit his chapter with a luck seed in his pocket though
I just started dq3 remake and for some reason I just give all seeds to whichever character already has the highest stat in that category. I donât know why it just feels right
i always give seeds to hero in 3 because theyâll never get stat squished by a job change. no idea if this is correct it just feels right.
does the camera zoom out button like ever work anywhere but fishbel in dq7? I tried it in the town in the first scenario but it only gives you the error noise. did they not invent the square button until the time of my hero?
Yes it works elsewhere but I donât remember the reason or if I even figured out the reason
The games are somewhat rebalanced for the QoL stuff. So if you keep pushing forward as soon as you can to places and zooming and such, you can end up under levelled pretty regularly, which is also its own kind of fun challenge. The Golem was definitely a roadblock for me when I got to him, but that was alright.
Iâm pretty sure that in Dragon Quest the stat seed effects get canceled after a few level ups. If you eat 1 strength youâll get 1 less strength later on from levelling up.
If you do try to save them for one hard boss you will completely forget about them though
Iâm pretty sure thatâs what this gamefaqs guy I mentioned was talking about
my understanding is that at least theoretically in 6 and 7 you could somehow use enough seeds on someone that their stat is too close or above a certain level (he said the stat cap was +60 in dq6 ds, +30 in 4-5ds, apparently it changes per level in 7 and depends on the character??) thus the game would give you less growth on that stat to compensate until you get back into normal range. but also the concept of giving a shit if you are at the point where you somehow used enough of one specific type of seed on a character to cause this seems weird, like how likely is that even to happen i personally did not notice this at all in 5 despite dumping every seed onto my hero. but i dont save scum for max stat gains either.
honestly it sounds like some shit that only harms psychos who try to farm seeds from enemies and is otherwise there to prevent stat growth from swinging too high or low.
tl;dr just do this lol
look good RPGs are all about a push & pull between instant & delayed gratification so like, whatever. i get to eat nut & see number go up itâs a win-win
this does remind me of earthbound (a first cousin of dragon quest of course)âs very exaggerated stat rubberbanding where you can get like 1 point in guts one level and the next suddenly get a fucking massive HP/PP boost and an across the board boost to all your other stats. which is what made the rock candy glitch so profitable
the weird derived stat thing that & these games used to do (where vitality/intelligence represented your chance to get bigger gains per level up) i think served to add to the slot machine nature of them more than anything really strategic
stats should look important but actually be used to emphasize aspects of each party members style
