this news forces me to conclude that development on the Adults Only Dragon Quest has been stalled because, in their quest to make the story more Adult they have been forced to confront the darkest regions of their own psyches and have thus become irrevocably scarred… twisted… and damaged…

Square Enix Asia just uploaded trailers for an Asian release of Dragon Quest X Offline in spring 2024, which could mean a western English release is about to be announced.
The Asian trailers only list PS5, PS4, and Steam as platforms, which could indicate that Nintendo is handling publishing of the Switch version outside of Japan, as it sometimes does with Dragon Quest titles. (The Switch version of Dragon Quest Builders 2 was published by Nintendo outside of Japan, despite launching simultaneously on PS4, which was published by Square Enix. Square Enix’s western trailers and PR never mentioned the Switch version.)

The one thing I wonder though - isn’t Dragon Quest X Offline just like, an early part of the main game? Like it’s not actually the last decade of expansions or whatever converted to the chibi offline thing.
Feel like I heard that somewhere, anyway.

i’m pretty sure it’s the base game and the first expac, while the second released in summer as dlc (and the rest are planned)

who are the best/your favorite Dragon Quest characters? it’s not a character-driven series much of the time but i was trying to think of the standouts
My favorite is easily Yangus from DQ8. hes such a sweetie. i love that he is consistently self-deprecating that he’s just some dumbass bandit, and is only openly loyal to his Guv, but consistently he has the most moral and empathetic party chat interactions, he comes to care for Jessica and Angelo and you while constantly denying it’s anything but gang follower obligation. Also his relationship with Red is really cute hes very understandably into this hot thief gal. And i love his unique skill tree being “humanity” (which iirc in the original Japanese is something closer to “empathy” or “sentimentality”. hes mechanically a big ol softie and gets more powerful by leaning into it)
I also love Henry from DQ5 who goes through some real shit with you, and ends up becoming a lifelong best bro. The game plot makes you revisit him just enough and it’s always very sweet and memorable
