yeah! currently the base game, launcher and the first few expacs have a straight up fan translation and anything beyond relies on a hack you give a deepl or google api key

Kept thinking about waiting for the HD 2D remake of DQIII to get some kinda release date before considering giving it a go, but looking at that trailer (and also being unfamiliar with stuff like Octopath) - do those HD 2D games force that one perspective and that’s it? No camera-spinning or anything?

It just seems like it would make the world extremely restrictive to have to redesign it to accommodate that fixed angle POV.

(Maybe I’m just looking for excuses to jump into another one of these, burnout risk be damned.)

DWII started the unfortunate trend of me getting to the very end of RPGs and not finishing them. I should probably replay it and break the curse (and then FFVIII, Xenogears, Persona 3…)

Oh, I know that! It just seems like locking the perspective at a front angle would be more restrictive than the traditional top-down view, or the fully 3D stuff the DS remakes did.

Talking out of my ass here, sorry!!

I’ve picked up PS2 Dragon Quest 5 again after setting it aside for a while. It’s still very charming, particularly the part where the prince tells you that you can have a treasure in his castle and the box is empty except for a message.

The protagonist just had twins, and now I’m wondering how far the game is going to go with that. Will they grow up and join the party eventually? I guess I’ll see.

I just finished PS2 Dragon Quest 5. It’s very good. I think I’d rank it above any of the other 3D ones that I’ve played (7, 8, and 10).

One thing that stands out because it’s unusual among JPRGs (and I guess video games in general) is that, as in Skies of Arcadia, the hero’s parents are both alive, present, and not evil.
