yeah the aliasing is pretty bad. the pop in is terrible, but that part doesn’t bother me much.
yeah this is the first thing I’ve gotten on switch that’s actually cross platform and it goes from being a joy to behold to looking pretty bad at times. the menus and the fonts are great at least.
wow what how long is this demo
I’ll let you know
I’ve heard it’s around 10 hours long.
The PS4 version isn’t getting all of the improvements with an update in the future?
yeah i’m guilty of this myself, i felt like a lot of the novelty and appeal of xi was ‘dq with graphics’, something we hadn’t had for ~15 years
there have been a couple of “we might consider it” throwaway comments but seems unlikely, pc version at least has the orchestral mod
also VIII was honestly pretty bad imo, though I definitely dislike level 5 and PS2 jRPGs as a whole. It was really flat throughout in a way that this immediately isn’t. This is the first time we’ve gotten top shelf dragon quest in English when it wasn’t explicitly sold as “enjoy this ancient jRPG” since 4.
If PS2 V’s characters, then locales/maps were done up a bit more detailed (less sd compact), like halfway to the depth of battle screens and monsters, it’d probably be my favorite looking in the series. I’m loving tf out of it.
Playing other DQs in the last year means I probably won’t get back to that replay of VIII anytime soon but with XI’s maximal comfy and series deluxe-allure, a few places I can put the former ahead now is
the world feeling more vast and awe inspiring as one larger interconnected place; assignment of your skill points bearing more consequence and reward, and adjacently item/resource management being muuuuuch more of a thing. XI’s so breezy it kinda “flimsied” in the wind at a few points. Draconian options are a godsend for flavor but don’t really change that inherent state.
Even as XI goes a lot of places and does some really incredible, magic as a series retrospective thing, the party interactions and overarching plot (while definitely hitting some notes) didn’t gong with me much as the crew and post-game reveals in VIII.
Given it’s an older treatment that’s half the reason but it also feels more rooted in classic series than how reference laden and soft XI can be.
The soundtrack is also among tops.
I am hype for XI for Switch, but it’s wild how ridiculously close to DQB2 it’s coming out. I still haven’t gotten around to Builders 2! But I did pick up one of those voucher things explicitly for it. I did this to myself.
Just give me a switch port of 7. The 3DS port was so good but my 3DS’s hinge is broken (irony?) and I don’t want to buy another one.
That would be nice, especially if they had the Monster Hunter-style save importing from 3DS given how long the game is
I am finally at a battle in XI which just wrecks me.
Fortress of Fear. A mandatory battle, a Loss Leader + 2 Headless Horsemen blocking the way forward. does this ring any bells? anyone else get here and start peeing their pants? They’re doing Too Much Damage Too Quickly. I have yet to grind, trying not to, and I’m about 53 hours into the thing. Level 46 or so.
edit: nm figured it out lol
well, I guess I beat this game! i honestly can’t remember the last JRPG i actually completed. time on defeating the Lord of Shadows was 54:41 which was a little quicker than I expected. I didn’t do too many of the quests, so maybe that would account for why I didn’t take 80 hours to finish. and I still have NG+ to do.
Oh wow. Don’t stop now!
Dragon Quest = $4.99
Dragon Quest II = $6.49
Dragon Quest III = $12.49
Dragon Quest IV: $20.49
Dragon Quest V: $28.49
Dragon Quest VI: $43.49
Dragon Quest VII: $61.49
Dragon Quest VIII: $87.49
Dragon Quest IX: $131.49
Dragon Quest X: $203.49
Dragon Quest XI: $294.49
I laughed pretty hard at this.
think ya got confused with iPhone pricing
square enix really needs to stop releasing lazy ports or ‘remasters’ of old games
look at dq3. no animations. the weird hd art looks ugly compared to pixel art imo
i’d love to have these, but i’d much sooner recommend the sfc and gbc versions
These squeenixgoya rereleases that look like laminated mush are such an affront to the cartridge og art. Bwah!
the only thing worse than the shitty “HD” art in every one of these remasters is the font choices. Please Square you are fucking killing me.
