FUCK YEAH DRAGON QUEST (Part 1)

softening slightly on the idea of having to get a switch now that I’ve realized I can use all this new macbook usb-c shit I had to buy with it in lieu of the actual dock or charger and just get a fell-off-the-truck bare model on ebay

You might want to read up on unofficial docks and bricking first. Last I heard running a system update while docked with anything but the Nintendo dock could be bad news.

I bought one of these to use as travel dock back in 2017, but it was super finicky to output the Switch to a TV.

Required lots of disconnecting, reconnecting, and/or rebooting.

i’m still struggling to see it in terms other than ‘lower fidelity versions of games i played 1-6 years ago now with low battery warnings and a £60 rrp’

it is definitely that but Mario Maker 2 and 2D dragon quest are very powerful

Some battle screens in DQV PS2 (any time of day) demonstrate a great feeling for the zone, a concentrated art style (particularly lighting) that the wider, free moving cameras of VIII, X, and XI aren’t able to. Sure I’ve prettied it up on PCSX2 but the presentation of some environments along with enemy models are just gorgeous, whereas VIII looked great and had to step away from this, the current definition in XI goes further and everything feels…a little too soft I guess.

did some digging and apparently they released two separate patches - one with the old american dragon warrior names and another with the modern localisations

I had an old fondness for Hurtmore and such, but those days are ages past, I’d feel weird bringing em into a translation patch of anything done after Dragon Quest 8 NA (I think where the modern localisations took hold). This remake of V was from earlier the same year as VIII JP, though.

this looks fantastic! I wish i liked 5 as much as 8. well… i wish i liked any of them as much as 8.

Hmm, the previous trailer looked like it was only going to cover the first half of the game, but now it looks like the full story only without the kids

Me: I wonder why they didn’t upload any DQ music to the Smash Bros website?

Me: Right, I know why.

I’m so excited for this. It’s a charming Dragon Quest thing that won’t take dozens of hours to finish.

I want to watch it with my girlfriend and freak out at everything while she doesn’t know what anything is

According to Ichimura on Twitter, there will not be any particular announcements during the broadcast.
